From time to time, when I press the button to open the boot (physical button), I have to press it twice. Almost as if it's once to unlock, and then another for it to pop up.

Is that standard, or shouldn't it merely be press it once for it to open/pop up?

Standard. It’s a safety feature on all new cars in one way or another. Intended to prevent hood from flying open and blocking driver’s view.

Hmm, I guess that makes sense. Thanks...

The boot/trunk should open on one press.

The two presses is due to the car determining (potentially incorrectly) that your key is too far from the door. Or it could be the body control gremlins that sometimes pay a visit on this vehicle.

my guess is it's ford's response to the gremlins of the past that opened the trunk into garage doors while owners were nowhere near the vehicles.

the reports of needing to push the button twice seem to have arrived late in the spring. since i only received mine this june i wasn't paying attention until i noticed it myself. ?

Do you need to push the button integrated into the tailgate twice? (The one next to the license plate.) I only push mine once and it opens or closes. If yours is always twice, then yeah that's an interesting change.

There’s a button for the boot? Who knew??‍♂

I only have to kick once, but many people here have to kick several times ?

If the car is unlocked, I think mine always opens on the first press. If the car is locked, I regularly need multiple presses. I blame that on using Phone as a Key, which sometimes results in the car waking up a little slower than expected. I'm guessing you're using a fob, which I would think would work faster than PaaK, but I use the fob so infrequently that I don't know for sure.

yep, the button on the liftgate above the license plate. the following is consistent:
  • locked, no key present: trunk locked, no trunk opening on rear button press
  • locked, key present: trunk opens ~3" on rear button press
  • unlocked, key present: trunk opens fully on rear button press (driver's door open or closed)
  • locked, key present: trunk opens fully on 2x remote trunk button press

It seems to be intentional, however, try this, unlock the doors and it will go all the way up in one press. Lock the doors and it will require two presses.
Smarter people than I can tell you why.

What everyone else here said. If the doors are locked and you use the button to open the lift gate on the back of the car, it will take two presses. Unlocked only takes one.
