This is NOT cutting edge tech. This is only cutting edge for a century old entrenched car company. Google, Apple, and even Tesla have been doing this for years. Ford is just lagging behind. Granted they aren’t lagging behind as much as everyone else, but they are still far from “cutting edge”

I am a frequent beta tester too, but this is one area where I would be hesitant to run the first beta.
Within the auto industry….

You can’t compare a cell phone to a car. One is highly regulated that results in death if something goes wrong…. The other…. Pisses someone off that they can’t play wordle :)

tesla was a startup in this field. They built the concepts… everyone else is learning and has to figure out how to adapt old methodologies

I get that, but even for the auto industry this isn’t cutting edge. This is catching up.

Don’t get me wrong, Ford is still way ahead of any other legacy automaker on this front, but their past is holding them back.

Took my car to the dealer Monday morning. They started work the next day. Took them two and a half days.... and they gave it back to me incomplete. Looks like they didn't do the final GWM or APIM. Tech notes (which they didn't give me all of when I left) leave off at the IPC, which they had to program over CAN. Now lane centering is busted as it was for many others here. Took it back with photos and highlighted info from the revised procedure aaaand they still haven't touched the car again.

I could also see in fordpass that despite being well within range of a blue zone, they took it in the opposite direction to test ?. Just plain didn't know what the end goal was.

At least they paid for the uber home. I'd like to, you know, go grocery shopping at some point though. I thought this might go better after a few weeks of ironing out the kinks, and after seeing someone say this dealer handled their recall well.

It's not just Ford, it's the "tech" at the dealership as well..the mentality of mechanics and tech at dealers is to not try to solve the problem but just to replace the whole thing.

FWIW the process seems to typically take 2 days (all of one, part of another)

My BS detector is beeping over the statement from the dealer that the process is bricking cars. At least in the forum I don't think we are seeing that.
Heard of one instance where they fried someones instrument cluster

Yet another issue resolved today by Ford

RESOLVED- 2021 F-150 and Mach-E APIM Software Update Failures

RESOLVED - The Ford Technical Assistance Center and Ford IT teams are aware that due to server related concerns, APIM programming was failing with an error message stating Procedure Unsuccesful - GetConfigDataFromGIVIS Modified Configuration data is missing from Ford server". This has been resolved as of May 5, 2022. Programming is completing properly at this time.
So, the issue is on Ford's end then? Nothing wrong with the hardware in the car? The software won't install due to a problem with Ford's servers? This would be something wrong with the softwre on Ford's end.....correct? Am I reading this correctly?

Correct. It was going to get some data from Ford's end and it wasn't getting it so it errored out. Sounds like it was just the configuration data that it couldn't get and the actual software downloaded. So it probably failed more towards the end of the update.

Cool. Glad they figured it out eventually. Weird that my dealer successfully installed BC on some cars but others didn't. Chalk it up to first year learning curve I guess. I won't bother going back to the dealership though. Might come via OTA later this year....we'll see what happens. In the meantime my car is working pretty good right now so I am pleased. ? There could be worse things than having to actually drive the car I purchased in large part because I like driving it. :)

This issue was only a problem for a day or two this week and was probably intermittent.

Their servers were just under a higher than expected load and couldn't keep up with all the requests.

On road trips I tend to put on the adaptive cruise control with the speed limit and just drive. I like just steering and occasionally taking over.

This is all that is showing for your car currently. Neither of which are needed for BC.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Optional Product Improvement Program 21G01 - BlueCruise Programming 1651851265066

However, PTS is still reporting this is your sync version: SYNC4 v4.0.21233
Hopefully that just hasn't updated yet and everything is good.

Oh bummer. It was April 11 thru 13th when the BC updates failed. Servers were fine back then?

I like Adaptive Cruise (but without the Intelligent speed limit part). I also don't normally activate Lane Keeping Assist or Lane Centering though. I enjoy taking the curves and moving to one side of the lane as I desire without the car fighting me. If the road is fairly straight, and well marked then I sometimes turn that on just to get a little break. Prior to the attempted update, the car would let me pick an area off center in the lane and it would keep that but the update turned that off apparently. I guess BC doesn't work well with that feature? If I had known, then I wouldn't have opted to let the dealer try BC.

Maybe the updates will come with better notes that say what is changing so we can make better decisions instead of just blinding accepting the update without any understanding on what is really happening. For example, the regen level has changed and it's related to speed and HVB S.O.C. Something like that probably should just be glossed over because it would cause more questions than answers. But, if adding Blue Cruise also means that Lane Centering is compromised on non-BC roads then maybe people would skip the software. I don't ever plan on subscribing to BC so I wouldn't want to give up stuff that I use more often for something that I would use on rare occasions.

I wonder how BC is going to work on the Lightning while towing. I would hope that Ford isn't planning on allowing people to drive hands free with a trailer in tow. That would be completely irresponsible IMO....

At that point it was the original update files, and they just had issues that caused a high number of cars to not activate BC fully. Ford released some updated files this week to help with those issues, and also started the new versioning numbers for OTA downloads.

Because so many cars were at dealers waiting on the new updates, I imagine Fords servers got overloaded because of all the dealers trying to get these cars back to customers asap with half way done updates it was just a higher than usual load and was causing timeouts in FDRS.

There were a few issues this week that they quickly resolved after releasing the new files. Things appear to be more stable now, and seeing more and more reports of successful updates.
