Ordered 23. Dealer called offering 22 cancellation

I have an order in for a 23 Premium STD RWD in grabber blue with light space gray interior. Really love the blue and wanted the light interior for the Georgia heat.

Another dealer called just now, offering a 22 Premium EXT AWD in space white metallic with black interior with interior protection package - zero ADM with X-plan pricing that is currently in production job #2 order. He sent over the VIN, batch ID, etc.

Do I take this one as a "test drive" while I wait on the 23 or just wait it out? I was thinking of keeping the order in for the 23 since I really love the blue and then sell/trade this one whenever the 23 finally shows up. The 22 will be a little cheaper up front and will definitely qualify for the tax credit. I have until the morning to decide before they move onto someone else.

Help! Thoughts? Suggestions?


Edit: I math'd wrong by not adding the taxes. My bad. It works out to about $2k more for the AWD EXT. It's still about $9k cheaper than the same config on the 2023.

If you get used to the 22 you might not be happy with the lower acceleration performance of the 23.

I’d jump on it. Nothing to lose. Worst case is you trade it back in (or sell) when the 23 arrives and possibly collect 2 tax credits.

I do love the Grabber Blue... That said, I would personally have a hard time passing up a bigger battery and AWD for basically free. Even if AWD isn't needed, it's faster than RWD. I'm glad I'm not in your situation, I would hem and haw myself into a tizzy. Trade an awesome color for (in my opinion) the worst color, but get a bigger battery and more faster? Very much in the personal preference realm here.

But, if you're looking for votes : The '22. Just because the '23's are too rich for my blood.

That is a pretty car. I might have to retract my statement about the color not being attractive. I test drove a white something or other select over a year ago and I thought it hid all the body lines too much. I don't know if it's your choice of wheels, the glossy black trim, or the lighting....but that's one fine looking automobile you've got there.

Ah I see your profile pic now. SS....SWEET! That is one of my top favorites. Four doors, manual, RWD, power, leather seats, sleeper. Checks alllll the boxes for me. Although not sure anything with racing stripes can still be described as sleeper. I love pointing them out to my wife....she's all like "I don't understand why you like Malibu's so much". I get a kick out of it.

At x-plan pricing no ADM?! Take it. Claim the tax credit. Flip it for profit when your 23 is ready. This is a no-brainer.

This is the exact advice that I would tell anyone. Without hesitation, I would take the 22 and list it for sale and take the profit and carry it over to her Grabber Blue 23. Win-Win

You end up getting the car you ordered along with the extra tax credit in your pocket.

Not sure that would apply if I kept it for 6+ months while I wait for the 23? Haven't had to sign anything saying I wouldn't, it's not exactly a Ford GT worth half a million. I'll probably keep it for the 'free' upgrade/$330 less than my 23 order and just learn to love the new color.
