Just took delivery of my Mach E, we were planning a road trip, When I put in the planned trip it was nearly double the time with then Mach E vs. GMC Denali, am I missing something? Is it normally double the time with the EV vs. gas?

Depending on the trip, yes. If you need to stop and charge, it can take a while depending on how many stops, and even what chargers you stop at.

Sounds like you may be getting routed to some slow chargers. Did you use the built-in nav to plan the route? Try doing the same route in the App called "A Better Route Planner" and see how it compares.

Try planning the trip using https://abetterrouteplanner.com/ .

Try to stick with overnight stops that have convenient L2 charging nearby. Some hotels offer this.

For pit stops, plan out the locations of DCFC locations along your route.

If this is accurate it makes way more sense! I like it!

100% agree, but there is also an issue with the Ford Nav. Firstly you need to configure it to only use "Fast DC chargers", but even then it doesn't take into account some "fast DC chargers" are actually slower than others. abetterrouteplanner.com does, so it will plan better trips and you'll take less time charging. I did a trip from NJ to Florida and planned the whole thing with abrp, which included working in the charging stops with meal breaks so that the charging time was productive.

There's more details here if you're interested.

I've done several long road trips. The "overhead", i.e. time added on a long trip, assuming you arrive at the destination each day and charge to 100% (hotel), is about 30%.

Keep in mind that in winter, the range for all EVs drops, up to 30% or more. Might only be 20%. But it drops, necessitating more stops.

Ford recommends turning off the heater during charging, so it charges faster.

Each stop requires you to leave the highway and drive to the EA location, which is usually a handful of traffic lights. We found that adding 20 minutes, 10 minutes to and from the chargers, was a pretty good norm. That makes each stop longer.

We have an upcoming drive of 1,200 miles spread over two days. We elected to take our F-150 which has a 36 gallon tank, and requires only 2 fueling stops over the 2 days. While we enjoyed taking the Mach-E on the two long roadtrips we did (4,800 miles total), if you're "trying to get there" the charging makes the day much longer. If you're leisurely driving then it doesn't matter as much.

You should read the countless threads about trip planning, and success / failures using EA chargers. I responded to one just yesterday. https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...look-for-charging-stations.12482/#post-304638
