Lately, in the past two weeks, I always get the “plugged in not charging” and the flashing amber ring when I first plug in my Mach E into my Grizzl-E charger.

I’ve started checking the Ford Pass app about 2 minutes after plugging in, get the not charging message, go out and unplug/plug back in and it’s charges just fine at that point.

My household also has a F150 Lightning that uses the same Grizzle charger without issue.

Thoughts? Thank you!

What year is your Mach e and what updates have you received? You’ll also want to find someone who can pull more specific error codes about why you’re getting the amber ring.

I’m getting this plugged in not charging about 10 or 20% off the time now. I don’t get the amber ring, though. I can force start charging from the app, but I feel like I need to check the app every time I plug in now. I don’t have any charging schedule set, so I’m stumped.

It’s probably a bad plug connection. Make sure you are fully inserting the plug with a firm push. Some Grizzl-Es have poor plug tolerances that can cause this.

2021 Premium. Last update was 4.2.6.1?? The DC fast charging update version after 4.2.6.

Hoping it’s just software issue.

Check for dirt and any foreign matter in the car’s receptacle then do as @Mach-Lee suggested. You can also find someone in the FDRS thread that can look up any error codes the car might have via the car’s VIN. Or if you have an obd-2 reader and software you might be able to get them yourself.

I am not saying that our problems are the same, but I used to get that a lot. I have my charging set to between 9pm and 5am for cheaper rates. If I plugged it in before my set time, I would get that message after it was scheduled to start charging. I now wait for 9:01 to plug it in and don't have that problem anymore.

Anyone know the recommended way to clean both sides of the connection? Compressed air (psi?), a cleaning spray? Seems to be a lot of dirty connections lately.

My Grizzl-e comes with a cap I use when not plugged and then I have a sock over it so that stays pretty clean. It is the car that goes out and around getting dirty with other chargers. Still do not have a 100% habit of checking them before plugging them in but getting better.

I am in the exact same boat to pretty much every detail I feel like an update to the MME had to have done this. My issue started at pretty much the same time frame as your report and I am using a Grizzl-e and the Grizzl-e works perfectly fine with my F-150 Lightning. I am pretty sure that I had two updates come through on close succession a day or two before I noticed this issue with my MME.

You know, now that you mention it, I did notice I had an update then updated to 4.2.6 like in 24 hours before I noticed something. Hmmmmmm

I have a 2021 First Edition and the same thing started happening to me when I got the 4.2.6 Update 2 days ago. I have the Ford Connected Wall Charger and it actually trips the circuit after charging for a couple of minutes. Didn't think much of it, but stood in the garage after it had already tripped twice to see what was happening. When it tripped a third time, I could smell some serious burning coming from the electric panel. Ugh. All signs are pointing to this new update causing the issue. My dealer was pretty worthless and had no idea what to tell me. What is the best way folks have found to contact Ford directly and at least get it on their radar, if any?

You have a problem with your wiring, and/or EVSE. Have it checked out by an electrician before attempting to charge again.
This was not caused by a software update.
I've got an electrician coming (unfortunately not until July 6th). The timing just seems strange since I haven't had any problems like this before and it started immediately after the latest update. There are others that are having issues with home charging too since the update. Whatever it is, it sucks!

I should also point out that I started using the mobile charger a couple of hours ago and that appears to be working fine. Slow as hell of course (on a 120v circuit), but it's not tripping.

Might be a little too soon to know for sure, but I think I maybe might have figured out my issue. I'm also using a Grizzl-E. When I was ending a charge before the target, I would always stop the charge from the app. But, the communication between the car and the charger is stupid slow. I've started waiting until the Grizzl-E shows a steady green light before unplugging, not just waiting for the charging ring on the car to switch from blue to gray. The Grizzl-E takes another 10 - 20 seconds to respond after the car stops charging. I've been doing this for about 2 weeks now, and haven't had the "Plugged in not charging" issue.
