Not for job1 21's. But it is after 6.8. Which means they're finally getting code bases lined up across the board.

I don't understand why Ford paused the rollout of these updates if they didn't intend to fix any of the bugs that were reported before the pause.

6.8.0 still contains the "1 MPH speed when parked" bug.

There’s a big difference between not fixing the 1 mph bug and not fixing any of the bugs. I know four a fact they have fixed some of the bugs. In fact 6.2.1 was a fix of the issue in 6.2.0.

The 1 mph bug is minor and transient. Ditto for the two day phantom power reduction in 6.8.

I’m fine with Ford fixing the big stuff and letting trivialities slide.

What is the unnamed upgrade after 6.8.0?
Also, did you experience an auto-update recently even with the auto update option disabled? It just happened to me today.

Update: found a list on updates in forums. But I couldn’t find a match. After the 6.8.0 I got the unnumbered one from before 6.7. Let’s see. Hope version 7 is on the way.

I disagree that the 1mph bug is a minor bug.

It exposes that under certain conditions the speedometer is wrong and Ford has a testing/coverage hole for this and lacks appropriate systems to catch this.

Under what other conditions is the speedometer inaccurate? Maybe its accuracy is off at other speeds? Who knows. Ford has shown that it can't guarantee correctness in all conditions.

1. Change your update time to some time after your morning commute or after your evening commute. That way the 12v battery has time to charge. It has been shown that some updates require a charged 12v battery in order to install correctly.
2. WIFI has not been used for any update so far. Why this is still being reinforced so heavily by Ford is unclear.
The last updates I got, 6.6 and CHG3, were via Wi-Fi. But those were the last updates I have received and they install Dec 13.

You’re right. Ford cannot guarantee perfection. That’s an amazing discovery. It will shake up the entire automotive industry and may mean the end of the world.

You can chill with the snarky tone.

If you think asking for an accurate speedometer is asking for perfection, then you have a very low bar for perfection.

This isn't part of something like the entertainment software. Ford should absolutely be held to a higher standard in that regard. The bug in the speedometer was flagged a while ago. If they don't have a fix for it, they should not have continued releasing the update for the IPC.

I design chips for the automotive industry, so I'm very well aware of the levels of verification various features should be going through. There is leniency for some non critical functions in terms of lack of verification coverage. This should not have been let through if Ford had proper systems in place.

You’re right but they let the HVBJB go thru, this is minor!

more recalls today because trim pieces falling off another Ford product, that’s the way they roll.

I agree that the HVBJB issue is much bigger than the speedometer bug. All of this unfortunately highlights the systemic process issues related to QA, and lack of process improvement on the part of Ford in various areas of development.

The fact that their latest updates introduce newer bugs means that they haven't taken effective steps to improve their SW qualification processes.

Ford, a traditional manufacturer, is learning how to manage software development and releases (so far rather poorly). This is actually quite interesting to observe as someone who was on the other side of this. I experienced what a Silicon Valley chip company went through when it entered the traditional automotive market. It took a whole company mindset change. Hopefully Ford can manage the shift, as well.

What would you consider accurate enough? As far as I know cars commonly have a speedometer that is slightly off, typically biased upwards. So if your speedo says you're traveling 70mph, you're probably actually traveling 67-69mph.
