It's Ford logic. If they say when something is coming, it means that it will come a long time after that. If they don't say when it's coming, it will be a long long time.
Oh! Like the remote frunk release?

Again, who gives a crap if your car is sending some random wanker? You're not logging into your bank from the car lol.
People might see that I have an abnormal interest in watching YouTube cat videos while at DCFCs 😀

All the people using FDRS who applied the GWM update that appeared after the APIM update that changed the UI have this change.

I created a guest network with a captive portal and was presented with a screen to interact with the portal.

After entering the password and accepting the terms of use I was connected.

Me too. Also 21 Job 2 EA.
Me three...I guess.

All I did was move the car 30 feet today after digging out. When I read this, I checked JSON and saw a new Update Successful, but no descriptive language.

Same thing in FordPass, says I got something, but no details.

Deployment date was today and AT&T signal is very weak where I live, makes me think this is the first WIFI OTA for me.

And ICYMI, something erased my Backup Start Code recently, probably 3.6.2.

Okay I am not part of EA and just got 4.1.2 today. Counting down starting........now..... :)

Actually when the hell is the Android Auto refresh going to show up? I definitely like the Sync improvements but, dammit, I want Cool Walk in the ME.

most sites use https now anyways so it wouldn't matter
This assumes the client (vehicle) is not compromised, or that any data that is being transmitted to Ford is encrypted at rest and in transit. It does not even have to be WiFi that causes trouble. Bluetooth can as well.

There is a lot of data that can be captured by Ford and can probably be associated with you by merely logging in with your account.

  • Home location
  • Email address
  • WiFi SSIDs and passwords
  • Ford account info

Bad actors are often after bits of information about people, that they can then associate with other information they've gathered to make it easier to steal identity info, etc. Hit up have i been pwned and enter an email address. High chance it's out there. I am incredibly careful, and all my active email addresses have been found via breaches over the years.

Connecting to any public WiFi without a VPN is not a good idea. Install DuckDuckGo's browser and enable App Tracking Protection on your phone. It'll show you what data is being shared with whom. Over the past 7 days, across 38 applications installed on my phone, there have been 286,713 tracking attempts. The data includes my name, email address, home address, IP info, app usage information, etc. If I am not blocking those attempts, I am trusting that the information is being secured on my phone and when it's sent to whomever is tracking, and that they're keeping it secure when they receive it.

TLDR; Unless SYNC is also acting as a VPN or routing traffic through some secure service (and they very well might be,) I'd be hesitant on connecting to rando public WiFi.

Just logic. Ford wouldn't have conspicuously left 2021 and 2022 cars out of the BlueCruise 1.2 announcement if they had any intention of rolling it out to them in a matter of weeks.
fair... I took your statement as more definitive and was wondering if someone might have shared that the decision was a hard no.

I'm still optimistic it will become available before all dev shifts to the new architecture.
