Exactly. The graphic does not react to anything the car is doing. I was hoping the brake lights would light up if being applied, the doors would show which one is exactly open, but no, it is useless.

When driving around, it just sits there providing 0 useful info.

I am a software engineer and I would not let this out the door if my team was making this change.
Just got this yesterday morning on my 2021 job 1. This was probably the worst UI change they could have done. Remove all cool graphics to the different modes and place a useless car in the middle. I literally engaged cruise accidentally because I was trying to turn it off thinking it was on because of the graphic. I'm in technology as well and also don't understand how this was approved or agreed upon.

There is some use to the car icon… if you turn on the cool safety features you paid for. :)

@Ford Motor Company - I’m not trying to run your business, but can you make the BC update rollout a higher priority than… this?
While I agree that the aesthetics change from ā€Thisā€ is a low priority. The potential safety issue of pushing the speedometer to the right side of a widescreen display, which is then obscured (for some drivers) by the top curvature of the steering wheel - should be a higher priority as its a basic safety concern. While BC is a convenience technology that is not even available in many locations. Having said that, I’m sure Ford has enough engineers/programmers that they can walk and chew gum at the same time.

And can we please stop with the shooting down of other ownerā€˜s concerns with comments of ā€œchange your driving habits to be like mineā€ or ā€œit’s ok for me. I’ve always used lane assist anywaysā€, or ā€œmove your steering wheel and position it as if it was a big rig semi truckā€. They are dismissive and irrelevant.

Ford and its engineers/programmers have to ensure their design works for the vast majority of its owners - including the different physical attributes (height) and the different use cases of those owners. This most recent update fails in that regard in that some owners have visibility concerns. And yes, this layout has been this way since mid-year … but how many potential sales has Ford lost after a test drive? My wife drove it yesterday and hates it. If she were test driving it, it would have been a lost sale and she would have been running to a new EV6.

At the end of the day it’s a small fumble by Ford and I’m sure Ford will fix it. I still love my MachE and will recommend to anyone.

If you turn Lane keeping off and disable the distance indicator in the pre collision assist, your speedo will be in the center again ...

I'm a Lightning Owner and got our version of 6.8 last night. It shows a truck with a blue square above it and then another car above that if it detects a car. Hated it until I realized it had reset my screen into Driver Assistant mode. If you don't know we can toggle through different displays in the center (Navigation next turn, tire pressure, This Trip, etc.). Our speedo has always been on the right.

So MAYBE, this is setting you up to have variable info in the center area like we do. I realize we have more pixels but you still have plenty of screen real estate.

Ford Mustang Mach-E PowerUp 6.8.0 released 1703173206756

I realize we have dedicated buttons on the steering wheel for this. And it would probably be unsafe for you to change the view by looking over to the center screen and tapping there. But it could show popups for navigation, BLIS, current music, etc. Tesla proved you don't always need physical buttons.

One day BC will be expanded to city streets and single lane rural highways. Never say never! ?
LOL I can actually say ā€œneverā€ regarding BCHF and my VIN since my car is not hardware compatible. ??

Hmm not seeing any 2023.5 owners complaining.
That's a disappointing comment to read from someone who has a YouTube channel that reviews cars and weighs their pros and cons.

I would counter that 2023.5 owners are a very small portion of the population, and statistically speaking are a poor gauge of acceptance. Not to mention we'll never know how many potential owners were turned off from a purchase due to the new UI layout... Its not liked they'd post displeasure here. However, people did start voicing disapproval even before this update (See link below and there are others).

https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/instrument-cluster-new-layout.31051/

But that's all irrelevant to me. What's relevant is the larger population of 2021, 2022 and 2023 owners that this is now rolling out to. We're the gauge for Ford as the vast variety (body type and driving style) of owners weigh in with feedback. In this case, there are a few owners starting to make comments about the speedometer's new location being obscured from the steering wheel due to their line of sight. And if there are owners on this forum starting to voice obstruction concerns, there is a very real percentage of the larger owner population (who are never on this forum) that this will also be a problem for.

No one is saying that MachE is now trash and the speedometer needs to go back to center location for EVERYONE. But its not working for some from a visibility perspective and positioning needs to be addressed. A toggle option would work for those that want it centered.

Let me start by saying there are several other threads discussing the change and the best way to lodge a complaint is by hitting the Feedback button in car.

I do understand people being triggered by the change but I feel very few actually can't see the speed on the right side. If that is true the seat & wheel position are not set up correctly (not to mention safe airbag placement). I also don't agree with a static car and would like it to at a minimum show brake light application. But I do like the static position of the speed now as it shouldn't move depending on mode etc. I especially like they got rid of the battery meter in Engage mode which was useless. I think most will get used to it and more should experience the awesome tech of these cars including BC as this is one of the best features and very rare in the industry (hands free).
