IF you ever want to sell again, you will have the most challenging time selling the car, dealers will give you pennies in trade in values and private party will be extremely tough because no one wants a lemon unless it is at a discount, not sure what are you seeing these cars selling for but if a clean title Mach E is $45k, don't touch a lemon above $35k and I personally won't touch it above $30k, this is as bad as flood when it comes to reselling.

I recently purchased a buyback '21 Premium First Edition with 17,000. When I was shopping around, a comparable vehicle with 17,000 miles was retailing for $43k+. I was able to purchase mine for $33k. Obviously, I was hesitant and wanted to know all of the details regarding the buy-back. In my case, the vehicle was reacquired by Ford due to "clicking" front half shafts. The reason they reacquired it was due to a part shortage. About 5 months after it was reacquired the half shafts were replaced, and it was put back into the market. The car has been flawless since I bought it. The biggest issue I had was that it was WAY behind on updates. I've since updated it myself via FDRS and have been very happy. I purchased mine from Van Horn in Lomira, WI and supposedly.... if I go to trade it in, they will give me fair market value as if it wasn't a buyback. I have a letter from their president stating such, but I don't put a whole lot of faith in that, to be honest. Regardless, other than the branding of the title, the car is flawless. It even came with PPF on the frontend. The original owner definitely took care of it.

From what I've seen, a lot of the buybacks weren't because they were "lemons", but more so because of the part shortage during COVID.

Just my experience.

It would be helpful to the community if those of you with buyback vehicles could punch in your vins on CarMax, Carvana or similar sites to see how much these vehicles go for in auction vs a vehicle with clean title.

Said differently, would $10,000 be a good estimate of value loss from the branded title.

Just ran mine through Carmax and Carvana, then a comparable one without a buyback. There's a $12k difference with Carvana. With Carmax, they "want to see the vehicle". So, the $10k difference in retail was close.

I think, in a nutshell it comes down to doing your due diligence on the dealer and on the specific VIN you are looking at buying. If you see any red flags, pass on it, but if everything meets your satisfaction, go for it. ??

Perfect. These are real figures to guide what to pay for (granted sample size of one). Thank you.

We are shopping for a used 22 Mach E. There seem to be quite a few buy back options available, I have searched and seen comments both ways on whether someone should purchase (or not)a buyback vehicle. We tend to keep vehicles forever, so that is not a concern. How do you know if the reason the car was bought back was resolved? Does the dealer have that information? What other advice would you all have, in what to look for when considering purchasing a buyback vehicle?

We would most likely need to purchase the car and then have it shipped to us - so we would not physically see/drive the vehicle until we had it.

Link to the current consideration below. Advice is appreciated!!

Purchasing a buyback is purchasing the last man's problem.

It's risky IMHO.
I had a Saab that was bought back due to electrical issues that the dealer could not fix, over 30 days in the shop and numerous other issues.
They just sold it at auction. I don't know what was disclosed but you could spend weeks tracking a bad ground or frayed wire from pulling the wiring harness through the firewall to quickly.

I purchased a Buy-back in February. I Received the details of what was wrong and that it was fixed. In my case it was electrical. I weighed the savings, purchasing a car with 13,000 miles that was 18 months old for 38,700 for a car that had a sticker of $65,000 so I made the deal. Tesla and Ford have lowered their prices, so my deal is a good deal not a great deal

Thank you!! I have seen several posts about people buy cars without seeing them/driving them.....obviously this wouldn't be for everyone. I wondered that tune would change knowing the car was a buyback. Thank you for the feedback on the FDRS and the tires!!
My last 5 vehicles were bought sight unseen, including the Mach-E Gt (dealer courtesy car). Most of them we flew out, bought and drove home making a mini vacation out of it. Only our 2007 Saturn Sky Redline was bought used 3 years ago from private seller. Wire transferred the cash ahead of time. Flew out to Vegas, drove through 6 states with it.

I have yet to have an issue buying a vehicle unseen. I'm sure there always could be an issue. Just do your due diligence. Reputable dealers, new or used, that have good online reviews. Private party requires a little more work, but can be done.

I was tempted to buy one from them 3 weeks ago. I bought a courtesy car from a different dealer in WI that was 2 hours closer to me. From what I saw online carfax's etc, it did seem to be parts shortage stuff for a decent amount of buybacks. I was really close to buying a 22' Grabber Blue GT for I think $32k it was. Then just throw a good extended warranty on it. Interesting with Van Horn about giving fair market value.

Hi. I am thinking about buying a Mustang MACH-E. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about this car. Do you think a Mustang MACH-E is worth buying in Los Angeles?

Would this be a buyback, a used car, or a brand new one? ??

Personally, aside from a few minor problems, I love my car. Given average weather patterns in SoCal, an MME is likely a good fit in that area, but it really depends on your specific use case and whether you can charge at home. ?‍♂?

I am considering buying a used car. I found a good decoder on this site. I would like to know how long the battery lasts in hot and cold weather.

My 2021 Mach E GT is a buyback from Van Horn Ford in Lomira Wisconsin. I can see now that there are several Mach E's for sale there now that are buybacks also. My car was driven to me in St. Louis and my trade was driven back up to the dealership. I purchased the vehicle with 7600 miles on it. My particular vehicle was a buy back because the USB ports were overheating. At the time, Ford was unable to get a replacement part for the vehicle within a reasonable amount of time so it was a buyback. The ports were replaced and the vehicle went back up for sale. I've put roughly 6,000 miles on it already in 5 months and it's been flawless.

In my opinion, it was well worth buying a "buyback" car - At the time, I figured I saved roughly $13,000 VS a new Mach E GT. They gave me around $4,000 more in trade than any other dealer was offering and the Mach E was priced about 10% lower than comparable used GTs in the market. Knowing that I'm going to keep it for a minimum of 5-7 years I figured that savings was worth it. In the end, the buyback vehicles still have a significant amount of bumper to bumper warranty and that warranty still applies. If something is wrong, FORD has to fix it. I ended up purchasing the FORD extended warranty (through another dealer so it was cheap) so I know that my vehicle is covered for everything for the next 7 years, 100K miles.
I have purchased multiple buybacks from Van Horn. I have never had issues with any of the vehicles after purchase.

The only problem is when it comes time to sell the car/trade it in, dealers will straight up say no thank you or they will lowball so much it will be tear inducing.

The solution to this is to trade in or sell it back to Van Horn. They will offer you a much better price than anywhere else.
