14% savings driving how fast though? And what was the efficiency?

Willing to bet at highway speeds it makes almost no difference.

Current HVAC strategy is on the verge of fogging up already, so if I did this I’d have foggy windows.

@AtomicInternet thanks for the post. As someone in a cold weather climate I can appreciate any ability to extend range. If I was in GA I’m sure I wouldn’t care either. But I’m not so I do. I’ll do anything at times to get another 3 miles out of it. Because trust me as someone who watched their GOM dropped like a rock and didn’t make it home in a snowstorm once those extra miles are worth it!

I also have wondered why I can not just open the vents for fresh air in the summer. I do not always want or need the blower fan on so just being able to open the vent to get fresh air in the cab without a/c going would be awesome! I’m sure there is an engineering reason for that but would be nice.

You are required to breathe air that has been processed through the cabin filter. Didn't you hear that fresh air gives you cancer.

Here is where I point out how much I despise designers that think they know better than the user.

"Hey, I know you pressed THIS button to do a certain function, but you are an idiot so I am going to override that at some point, but not tell you."

My favorite is when I have the windshield air going, but it forces on e-heat, despite the fact that I don't want it on sometimes. I finally figured out turning on the floor vents allows me to turn e-heat back off. See my sig...

Nice, you reduced your HVAC by 32%, I think that's a noticeable chunk if you're mostly doing a lot of short trips.
But anyway, I'll be sure to use that if I'm at risk of not making it to my next charging spot in winter. Thank you!?

Only in the state of California. They have all the scientists.

So you know why it's like that right? Because a whole other set of people will complain if something else about it doesn't work right. And one of those people might be the government and lawyers. If you select defrost mode, heat is needed so the windshield defogs. If the windshield did not defog when defrost was selected because the heat was shut off, that would be a safety defect that would trigger a NHTSA recall. And people would complain "Why doesn't it defrost the windshield when I have it in defrost?!"

Like or not, there are bunch of stupid things people do, so these design decisions are a compromise. Following government standards comes first, then safety/legal, then minimizing the number of complaints (even though their decision might satisfy the majority but piss off a different smaller group). You can't please everyone.

First, there is no way that would be a safety recall. What would they fix? If you press the e-heat button, you get heat.

Second, I CAN actually override it, but I have to have one of the other two vents turned on (for some weird reason), so your 'safety hazard' is in effect. When should we expect the safety recall for this dangerous flaw?

Third, I don't even mind that it automatically turns on every time for dumb, stupid people with zero common sense. But what is the point of not letting me turn it off if I press the button? Again, bad designers that think they know better than the user, and make things less usable.

Fact.

The main reason for government regulations is people trying to take advantage of other people or the environment. The 2nd reason is that people are too stupid to take care of themselves.

Note - to be clear, I'm not stating that anyone on this forum is stupid, or behaves in a stupid manner. But mankind, as a whole, is comprised of a large amount of idiots, just like George Carlin said.

Fun tip - switch from Auto mode to vents or floor, and it won't turn off recycle...
I play this heat recirc game too partly to save a bit of range but primarily to keep cabin warm (I found its e-Heat does not warm cabin well.) My experience has been that even with Auto off, panel or floor vent on, the Recirculate will still turn itself off after a while. I suspect it’s interior sensor detects a rise in humidity and turns off Recirc when it reaches a certain level. Mine is 2022 with PowerUp 6.6.0

Yes, humidity override plus required minimum fresh air so passengers don't die of CO2 buildup.

I live in the Boston area and I play with the recycle button quite a bit. If I drive by myself, I mostly turn off fan & heat and just with heated seat and steeling wheel.

With battery at 1/4 full and some one at the non-heated back seat, I will turn up the heat with circulate air on. I can really feel it lowered the energy consumption. When it get fogged up, I will press "auto" or "defrost" button (the real button next to the light switch) to clear it.... then circulate again. It is like you drive a bit slower on the highway when your battery is low. There is nothing wrong with it.
