They found some U code during the scan and could not determine what it was for so they told me to take the car to the dealer to see what the code was before I could get a new windshield. Has anyone run into this U code before?

Looks like its related to a module update. Case closed.

I'm actually surprised that safelite would replace a mach-e's windshield (considering it's special IR reflective and sound absorbing, etc, etc)

I have had 2 windshields done by Safelite on our MachE. The fist replacement was a Ford OEM and the second was unknown brand. Both worked fine however the dealer still had to calibrate the camera. No issue getting it scheduled.

When Safelite replaced mine, they said they had to drive around, and the camera would self-calibrate. Unlike my wife's Honda Pilot, it had to be taken to the Safelite office, and they had to calibrate it in front of a special screen.

I'm getting my windshield replaced by Safelite this weekend. All of the dealers around me said they outsource their glass work to local shops and didn't really help set anything up. Safelite's website did mention calibration, I wonder if they'll have me take it to a dealer for that.

I had a windshield replaced by Safelite with no issue. They used OEM glass and just had to drive the car around for a couple miles to calibrate. Only took a couple hours and no dealer visit required

Never heard of a U code.
U code means U need a new windshield installer
U codes are usually communication error codes. They're DTCs set for various reasons. I'd imagine if Safelite had a problem, it was the IMPA with a stored code.

Just had our windshield replaced with OEM unit by Safelite. No problem. They did tell us that they would scan for codes related to the sensors on the windshield first. They did an excellent job.

I’m on my third one. Construction in my area leaves a lot of rocks on the road.
They offer both the Ford OEM windshield (because it has the Ford logo at the top) and an aftermarket that’s a little cheaper. Both have all the coatings, wiper warmers, rain sensors, etc.

Replacing windshields is literally Safelite’s business. Most Ford dealers don’t replace glass.

I had a previous vehicle (2016 toyota rav4 limited) that safelite couldn't replace the glass on. It was something about having to use only OEM windshields for some reason. (That drove my insurance company nuts.)

Anyway, as a result of that I was always left with the (perhaps incorrect) impression that safelite couldn't do any type of specialty windshields.

Yes, your impression is incorrect. Safelite uses OEM glass all the time.
