Today a warning popped up briefly saying something like stop charging before starting the vehicle. Is that a bad idea?

You can’t put the car in run mode (normally accessed by depressing the brake pedal and tapping the Start button) while a charge cord is attached to the charge port. “Starting” the car when plugged in will allow you to access HVAC and infotainment. Once you disconnect, you can start the car and drive it. ??

It's best to read the actual warning message. If you then can't understand it, take a picture of it and post it.

In short, the car was designed so that morons (read "humans") wouldn't drive away while plugged into a charger. People do at gas stations, so they said "hey, let's stop the morons from ripping the charger off the wall and electrocuting themselves or others".

It's proven that people don't read warning messages, ripping off the charging door after unplugging has way too many posts.

Hence the need for break-away hoses at gas stations.

Humans are embarrassing.

I'll own it: I drove away from a gas pump with the hose still in my car a couple years back. I was having a bad day. That's when I learned what a break-away hose was.

Since getting my Mach-E I've actually had a fear of forgetting to unplug my charger before pulling out of my garage. It's good to know that the car would prevent me from doing it.

It's not so much forgetting to unplug, it'll keep you from backing out. however the charge door being open won't. A couple people have ripped theirs off or mangled them with the garage door when backing out. (A warning does pop up about it open though.)

I get it :sunglasses: . I knew as soon as I posted it, within weeks, I'd probably be posting how I need a new charging port.

Just a safety measure. If you forgot that you were charging and drove away, you would pull all of your charging equipment with you and possibly the drywall.

Or worse, like wrecking your all plastic charge port. ??

It would happen! With all the damned dings I totally blew past the warning about the charge port being open still after I unplugged.

CRUNCH, there it goes, popped off (but not scratched amazingly) and put a nice dent in the fender.

We are all capable of being idiots and should be treated as such.

Yep, I remember driving the Celica into a 510 and getting black flagged. Stupid as heck. But he deserved it. ??

In this mode does the HVAC run off the HVB? I believe you get the 12 V battery icon which makes things confusing. Shouldn't the DC/DC be active?
