My wife got the stop safely now message in our mach-e while she was waiting to pick up our kids from school. It wouldn't let her switch gears out of park so she was stuck. We were unsure if turning the car off would be a bad idea so we left it on. When I got to the car, I called ford roadside assistance and the car automatically shut off to save battery. I waited 30 minutes and when I opened the door, the car automatically turned back on. I was able to switch gears and ended up driving home. I called a local ford dealership and they looked up my VIN and said I had a bunch of fault codes for the past several days. They said I should bring the car in for service. Is there a way for me to look up these codes myself? Would there be fault codes for days before I finally get this stop safely message?

You have a stuck contactor code, but you also have some other codes I've never seen before, so this seems like an oddball issue. I'm not ready to condemn the HVBJB just yet, but you might have some kind of wiring issue inside the pack or a BECM going bad.

  • P0AA2 - Hybrid/EV Battery Positive Contactor 'A' Stuck Open (not closed like typical)
  • P0ABB - Hybrid/EV Battery Pack 'A' Voltage Sense 'A' Circuit Range/Performance - Sets when BECM detects the difference between the positive voltage measurement from the sum of the high voltage battery cells and the cell array is greater than a calibrated threshold for a calibrated amount of time.
  • U351F - High Voltage System Interlock Circuit 'E' Low - This DTC sets when difference is detected between the battery and the PTC heater.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on here, so I recommend you leave the car at your dealer. This is a problem engineering is going to want to take a look at. They will probably need to drop your pack and do some tests. Again, this problem seems unique and does not match typical HVBJB failure modes. Your build date is July 20th 2022 so you have the new HVBJB.

Thanks for looking this up @Mach-Lee ! I'll definitely take this in to the dealership tomorrow then.

I got a call from the dealership today saying that it was a HVBJB issue. They ordered a new one and will replace it. They didn't say anything about the pack or the BECM.
I had also started a case with the BEV team but it seems like all they are doing is just following up with the service center to see that the work is getting done.

My SWAG is that the contactor‘s contacts are damaged causing a lower voltage to be detected downstream of the HVBJB as compared to at the battery.

Well they didn’t call me yet but I noticed that they drove 24 miles on my car around town today so I’m guessing it’s fixed. I haven’t had a car before where I could track it. Is this normal for dealers to drive customer cars around after they fix it?
