I apologize for bringing this old one back up, but now after "extensive testing" I was able to recreate the bug of random flashes. In my case it seems to be a bug that occurs when using sync nav but Android Auto is also running. The best I can tell is that although I'm using sync for nav, Android Auto still has the map open and for some reason it periodically updates the Android map in the background causing the bar to flash.

If I disconnect from Android Auto I cannot recreate the bug. I haven't tested to see if that's can occur using AA via USB versus wireless.

You might be onto something there....
I don't use Android Auto and the blue bar functions normally with the native navigation in Sync4A

I have to try that to see if I can duplicate it. I recently disabled AA because I wasn't using it; now I have to try Nav with AA off. Hmm.

I’ve yet to see the infamous blue bar. Two things of note: I’m on an iPhone and never use Apple Maps although CarPlay is on, and I’m in an area with no divided and controlled access roads.

Blue bar shows up anytime I'm supposed to take a turn or go into a freeway.

I only use the SYNC Nav so far.

I only get it on freeway interchanges and exits. Always comes on when the display says .5 miles to that junction or exit. I have never seen it on surface streets.

Maybe it's the same for me and I'm just remembering it wrong

I wouldn't be so sure. Each of our cars has a personality of its own it seems. :)

I did an experiment: Turned off Android Auto, set a destination about 10 miles away (a local mall), drove to the mall, in the parking lot turned Android Auto back on and had the car navigate me to home.

What happened:
During the trip out (AA off) the blue bar only appeared when it was supposed to (when there was something on the main nav screen for me to look at) and during the trip back (AA on) I repeatedly saw the blue bar flash when it wasn't supposed to (around once every 15 - 60 seconds or so).

Part of the way home I even dragged the AA tile down (which effectively "closes" the app) and the blue bar continued to flash. It would seem that you have to disable AA completely.

Since I'm the only one in the family with an Android phone I'm the only one to have seen this (and thus the rest of the family thinks I'm crazy but for more than this simple reason ;) ).

My guess is that the feature that projects Android Auto's navigation instructions onto the driver display is somehow fighting with the in-car navigations display even though I wasn't using AA for navigation.

Makes me wonder if iPhone users will start getting the blue bar flash once iPhone's navigation instructions also make it to the display (provided Ford hasn't already found and fixed the issue of course).

Was AA projecting via wireless or USB? Just curious for future testing.

I get the blue bar. I have an iPhone and have given up on CarPlay (the only use case was the SiriusXM app and the CarPlay version of the app is awful).

I rarely use Ford’s nav, but I’ve seen the blue bar on a few occasions. And I’m an Apple guy using mainly CarPlay for my nav and music. So I don’t think the blue bar has anything to do with Android Auto.

For clarification, when you say you see the blue bar, are you referring to the blue bar that appears about 1/2 mile from scheduled turns (working as intended) or the intermittent flashing blue bar that seems to occur randomly.

And by giving up on car play do you mean you no longer run it, or just do not use it but it is setup.

Same question as above, when you say you've seen the blue bar, are you referring to the blue bar that shows up before turns or the random intermittent flashing of the blue bar.

I've repeatedly created the bug now using AA, not to say it couldn't have multiple causes, but JamieGeek was also able to create/fix the bug using AA.

If someone with car play gets the same bug and wishes to help out by testing by toggling CP, that would be useful.
