Yeah I was thinking this. I do use my trunk sometimes, but I also like slamming it shut because otherwise, it is frustrating that it sometimes didn't shut completely easily. I'm also wondering if I could have caused the latch mechanism to misalign by not being gentle to it.
I was also thinking perhaps the parts bin parts Ford (likely?) used for the latch isn't well-designed for a frunk in that a latch for a hood probably doesn't need to stand up to nearly the same amount of wear and tear as on a frunk.

At least, I see this as more likely because if it's the cold weather that does it, I feel like we should be seeing a ton more posts about this type of failure from Canadians, people in Michigan, Minnesota, etc.

How do you close your frunk? Front paws only? slam with force or push down after it's latched but not fully closed?
I'm more of a palms down with some force but no slamming. That method doesn't always latch the frunk, so I press lightly to completely close it.

Look on the bright side, at your steering wheel didn't fall off while you were driving a car that is only two weeks old in heavy freeway traffic.....;)
Yes, things could always be worse! They also aren't trying to charge me to fix the problem.

I'm not sure temperature alone caused the issue, but I think some amount of misalignment of the latching developed that is exacerbated by temperature. I agree, not a very common problem of temp alone, I don't live in a particuarly cold climate.

This is from the owners manual. So it should not be slammed because of the double release mechanism

Lower the frunk and apply light pressure
as it drops.

Yeah I think I have to be more gentle -- or just not use my frunk -- if Mach N Cheese are going to continue our relationship.

Kinda not a good design if you can't conveniently have the hood close, but good data point.

The malfunction appeared to be temperature related, and after a while, you can either push the hood closed and it would latch -- or you can hit the frunk release on the screen or via door combo, and it will release open normally.

I guess I have to look on the bright side that they're replacing virtually every part involved with the frunk mechanism, so as long as the parts show up soon, I guess it'll be fixed soon. Could have been worse, they could claim nothing was wrong with it.
Showoff! Stop bragging about your ability to remotely open your frunk! ???
Just kidding - sounds like an awful experience ?

That's a very interesting point/theory! I recall back when I was engineering products how marketing would tell us, "Just use what they did, it works for them!" but in reality, there often were important differences that made that a really bad idea. Marketing would gets do frustrated, but then again, our products were much more reliable than the competitors'.

I could see how a hood latch might get a couple hundred activations in the lifetime of a car, while a frunk latch might get a couple hundred in a few months...

One thing that stands out is the fact that they knowing destroyed parts without having replacements on hand. They had to know they were rendering the vehicle undrivable when the did this. Sucks.

Correct. This despite my doing everything possible in having an understanding with the service advisor that we were going to give me back the car today -- we didn't have a rental set up, my car seats out of the car, etc.

They should have definitely consulted with you before deciding to cut it open

I saw them doing this via my Blackvue cloud dashcam, but it was a minute or two too late by the time I looked.
