My screen used to be slow. Now it’s much faster after the UI update. Almost instantly responds.

Maybe take to the dealer and make sure you have all the updates?

This is what I experience. But, I will say, a forced reboot after an update is often necessary.

Get in, start. Put on seat belt. Back out of garage. Close garage door. Drive down driveway, and adjust fan, etc. #FirstWorldProblems

Great features and functionality for a $25k car. At the MME’s price point you should expect more.

So it works but the visual numbers don’t change?

Strange. As you can see mine doesn’t have the same issue.

Seems your screen loads pretty quickly though.

Since you have a 2022, you probably don’t know how slow the screen was before the updates. THAT was slow!

This time it did this. Normally it takes 2 seconds to show the graphics. I usually don’t touch the volume until a few minutes into my drive.

Not to play devil’s advocate, and I get where people are coming from, but the soc for this thing is what, 8 years old? It was chosen because it is reliable, not fast. Works pretty well in that regard. I think I’ve had to force reboot the thing twice in 8 months? However, I did update the modules about 5 months ago vis FDRS because it was OTA orphaned. That was a PiTA for a weekend to get the control knob to change HVAC, but it was worth it. When are we going to see the BC 1.3 OTA sequence start? It’s been 2 months since announcement.

This time it did this. Normally it takes 2 seconds to show the graphics. I usually don’t touch the volume until a few minutes into my drive.

So what is the complaint exactly?

2 seconds for a computer screen to load and function is…….. fast! Especially considering how many things function through it.

Before the UI update, it took 5 seconds or so. But that was because it would show some random welcome screen and things that looked pretty, but served no purpose. So they got rid of them.

But either way, I don’t think 2 seconds is slow. If I turn my home computer, laptop, cellphone, tablet…….. anything off then back on, it’s taking a lot longer than 2 seconds!

So here's the thing, you can get vastly different behavior on startup depending on what happens before, regardless of what system updates you do or don't have.

The trick is, the system starts booting up before you push the start button. The moment you open the door and the animation starts playing, the system is booting up in the background.


Here's an example of me opening the door and immediately starting up the car, and it's extremely laggy.

And here's an example of turning the car on after letting it boot for a few seconds

Interesting. The 2nd one is definitely faster.

But there is no way I would describe the first as “extremely laggy.” Seems to do everything you want it to in less than a second.

I just don’t know what people’s expectations are. This thing boots up faster than my phone or any computer, tablet, laptop etc I’ve owned.

Just for fun I just turned my iPhone 13 off. I pushed the button to turn it on and it was a full 15 seconds before the screen loaded to put in my password.

And no way our Mach E has a processor anywhere close to what my phone has.

I had to cut the beginning because the video size was too large.

Like I said 2 seconds to respond on a system like this is a lifetime in computer science terms and in this day and age.
