It's one of my biggest pet peeves with auto makers. They go cheap on the power of the center console not realizing how that affects the overall experience. Even on my Honda Accord there's a significant delay. I think only Tesla realizes how important it is.

It’s not instantaneous, but it’s not unusable.
Right, which is why I still love the car. Hey it is always possible for future updates to fix this stuff as well.

Have you guys tried restarting Sync (yes, I know, it shouldn’t be necessary).

For all of you that are more technically advanced than me; here are some specs on the MME....discuss ?

The S32G2 vehicle network processors are supported by a broad range of software enablement that comprises Reference Software, Standard Software and Premium Software, in addition to support from the S32 Design Studio IDE.
Features include:

  • Quad Arm Cortex-A53 cores with Arm Neon technology organized in two clusters of two cores with optional cluster lockstep for applications and services
  • Triple Arm Cortex-M7 lockstep cores for real-time applications
  • Low Latency Communication Engine (LLCE) for automotive networks acceleration
  • Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) for Ethernet networks acceleration
  • Hardware Security Engine (HSE) for secure boot and accelerated security services
  • Advanced functional safety hardware and software for ASIL D systems
  • AEC-Q100 Grade 2 device: -40 °C to 105 °C

I had the same problem on my 2018 Volvo XC60. It was surprising how slow it was considering it is considered a (near) luxury car... (About the same slowness as the Mach E.)

I actually suspect it’s all software related.

This thread has me wondering if some folks have more problems with lag than others. Assuming the times aren't exaggerated... I've never seen it take 4 seconds for the overlays to appear or had to stop the car to wait for the camera to appear. Most of the time we're talking a half second to maybe a full second delay, but not to the point where I've finished making changes before it shows up.

A second is a lifetime in computer world.
I think mine is almost 2 seconds.
These in car operation should take milliseconds.
I working on a product at Microsoft used by millions and our latency to send a chat message to another continent is less than 400ms.

One would think that if you worked for MS on any project you would be more understanding and forgiving of the intricacies involved in how software and hardware interact with each other. MS doesn't exactly have the greatest track record when it comes to these sorts of things and they have been doing it a lot longer than Ford has been..........

It was all great hardware, maybe it’s just not optimized for QNX

Well, that’s a matter of perspective. I’m one of those that care about performance (response and throughput )
What you say about MS software might have been true a few years ago, but not today. Take windows as an example. Much more responsive than the shit windows 8 was.

But then again, we are comparing apples and oranges. Ford’s software is an embedded software.
I think it was better when Sync ran on the MS embedded OS.

I'll give you a real world example that happened to me just this last week.

My mom was in town and she needed a car for a couple days. I let her drive the MachE. She was a bit skeptical because she hadn't ever driven an EV, but she's in her 60's and a retired doctor so I figured it wouldn't be too hard for her to figure out.

She got in and immediately wanted to turn off the AC. She pressed the buttons on the display continuously because they were lagging. I had to tell her to give it a moment to react. She even said, "why is it so slow?". Now I know that you, myself and others have likely become accustom to the speed at this point. Some haven't however and are still bothered by it. My Rivian is on, booted up and ready to go before I ever get in the drivers seat, it's definitely something that is noticeably different.

In the mach e, Sync uses a cpu from 2016, don't expect much from it. China lucked out and has an upgrade available for them but we're stuck with this crappy one.

Well, it is reliable for the most part, which is important.

I don’t care about lag very much, at least not the same amount that I care about crashes or kernel dumps.
