I suppose one must draw the line somewhere. And that Is why I’ve reached the end of the line with the Mach-e. Odds are very close to 100% there won’t be another one in our garage.

My first car was a '71 LTD. But I had already learned to drive on a '75 Granada at Driver's Ed.I learned how to drive in an LTD Brougham! I’ve used a “real” column shifter! (And we won’t discuss the Brazilian market LTD with a column mounted 3 gear MANUAL shifter ?)
Prior to my current 2024 MME I owned a series of Fusions (2014SE, 2016 Hybrid, 2018 Plug-In). They all had/have dial shifters and I simply LOVE that feature. Sorry to see it go away in 2025.Yes, and no it’s not. Plus it’s not the only change that’s unacceptable. Beyond that, the dial shifter wasn’t universally hated.
it depends on what is in your thought balloon. I like the Mercedes and Tesla stalk implementations... if people imagine the mechanical linkage of an automatic shifter on the column from a 70's GM car, I can see why that wouldn't be attractive, but electric transmission shifters aren't like that and I find the muscle memory easy without looking. I have shifted into park in the MME doing a J turn... not good. How is a column shifter less than logical? Move it one direction for forward, opposite direction for reverse, etc. I could understand not liking the ergonomics, but the logic seems ok.
Interesting that you draw the line at a shifter stalk that operates the same as most any column shifter on other vehicles. I understand the frustration over the smaller frunk, it is now comically small. We never used the frunk for much on our Teslas. The lower rear storage in the Model Y got used for a ton of stuff and it's unfortunate we're losing a lot of space there going to the Mach-E. While Ford has taken away a few features, they have added more than they have removed. Most of the omissions, aside from perhaps the frunk, I doubt I would ever miss. I was not aware of the kick activated rear hatch operation being eliminated... Or that the MME had it in the first place. I've had it on past vehicles and never cared for it, as I've always found it to be finicky and unreliable. And that Is why I’ve reached the end of the line with the Mach-e. Odds are very close to 100% there won’t be another one in our garage.
Because integrated into the shift stalk 1PD can be activated/deactivated more dynamically; easier and faster.I don't know, but why would it be different from prior model years where 1PD is selected from the controls menu on the display screen?
Huh, my (well, it's my sister's now, but it used to be mine) 2014 Fusion Energi has a console-mounted stick shifter for its CVT. My brother's 2018 FFE has a dial shifter. ??Prior to my current 2024 MME I owned a series of Fusions (2014SE, 2016 Hybrid, 2018 Plug-In). This is part of why I think that the rotary shifter's execution is flawed. No lockouts. ??<SNIP>

I doubt that Ford is going to give the MME a physical way of toggling 1PD. They haven't even offered a physical liftgate or frunk switch, which are things I would use infinitely more than a 1PD switch. ?Because integrated into the shift stalk 1PD can be activated/deactivated more dynamically; easier and faster.
Karaoke!Yes, their motto is, we strive to make you feel good about something you’re really not going to like!
I have a big-ass console mounted shifter on my Lightning. It even has a magic function to fold down out of the way to use the work surface. While I am not a fan of column mounted shifters, I also really do not like the rotary shifter. The superstalker is more or less a side-grade to me. I want an actual linear stick shifter that locks out Reverse when in Drive and Park when in Reverse. A simple button at the top of the knob can override the lockout but not allow the override to shift straight from Drive/Neutral into Park. This is tech that’s been around since the ‘60s, so it’s not like it’s that hard to implement. ??
Hard to argue with that. Even though the change to a stalk shift doesn't offend me in and of itself, it was definitely an unnecessary "upgrade". Like you, I can come up with a half dozen other features/upgrades I would rather have seen.Of all the things to change....the dial shifter?!?!?
Dial > Stalk
Why not make changes to:
Physical Frunk release button
Physical hatch release button....or at least put the digital buttons at the top of the screen ALWAYS
Heated rear seats
Ventilated front seats on ALL models
Mark, are you aware for a total price of $250 you can change out your console stick shifter for a rotary dial shifter and it is plug a play!I have a big-ass console mounted shifter on my Lightning. It even has a magic function to fold down out of the way to use the work surface.
I wish it had a rotary like my '21 Mach E. Takes up less room and one less thing to break.
It does, but 1PD isnt on the stalk if that is what you’re asking. The 1PD is under drive mode which is unchanged from previous model years from what I know.I promoted on several previous forums that Ford implement a joystick gear shift, similar to the Toyota Prius, which could allow activating/deactivating 1PD mode easily. I have not found a video showing if or how the superstalk shifter allows 1PD mode. Anyone know?
Ventilated seats were the reason I waited for the 2025! It’s just too hot in Atlanta to not have them in the summer. Being able to precondition the cabin will help a lot, but I would still get sweaty between my skin and the seat. You're not alone. Agree with all of these things being great improvements. I've had the dial shifter on several vehicles and just never liked it much. It's fine, but it's always a waste of space. Stalk shifter is the same as what most cars have had over the years, most of our recent ones be it our Teslas, my last several Super Duty trucks and more.
It's a bit disappointing that the frunk had to be made that much smaller for the heat pump. But I'd much rather have the heat pump, if it works as it should. I get there are a lot of people who don't see the need for a heat pump. It seems like an unnecessary add-on if you only live and drive in Southern California or Arizona... But I think far more people will benefit from it and it makes no sense for it to be an option. And I don't think I'll ever buy a car again that doesn't have ventilated seats.
Why not put the dogs in a crate in the cargo area?Ventilated seats were the reason I waited for the 2025! It’s just too hot in Atlanta to not have them in the summer. Being able to precondition the cabin will help a lot, but I would still get sweaty between my skin and the seat.
I was down for the column shifter because I foster dogs through a local shelter and it usually means having an excited dog who wants to climb up front to see the person who got them out of the shelter. I’d have been afraid a rogue paw would hit the dial shifter and put me in park or something!
I am bummed about the frunk size because I won’t often need the heat pump, but since I’ve never had one it isn’t a huge loss. Can’t miss what you never had. My next choice was the EV6 which has a TINY frunk, basically only big enough to store your cable.
