Will be interesting to see if we will be able to upgrade our Sync 4 systems if we're able to get Sync 5 modules at some point. I got a few more years out of my last Ford upgrading Ford Sync MySync to Sync 3 (CarPlay!) with a new touch screen and APIM module off eBay. Worth every penny.

Extremely unlikely. The Mach E APIM is far more interconnected to other systems in the car than the standalone APIM upgrade you performed on your older system.

If I'm not mistaken, the tesla system is water cooled

Hopefully the final version doesnt have a fan required for cooling, thats likely going to lead to a lot of problems after a few years

Eh, depends on where it is really. Those fans are pretty reliable, even if they get caked in dust, so as long as it's located inside the cabin area, it would be fine for quite a while.

It's not speculative, Ford has previously confirmed that Android will power the next major version of Sync. It's nice to see they are making progress and already have hardware in testing.

I'm not saying SYNC 5 being built on Android is speculative, I'm saying some of the features like sentinel cameras are speculative.

I think it is a mistake they did not opt for the NVIDIA SOCs and (like Geely) have Unreal Engine (see Lotus cars) as a UI render engine for it. (no joke) NVIDIA SOCs have far more capabilities reading sensor data with the least amount of latency.

That's the information provided by ford. Are you saying ford's notes for describing what the system does is "speculative"?

Saying the system has the capability is different than saying Mach-Es will be delivered with the capability, or what that capability actually looks like. And even if it wasn't my intention, I guess I don't mind saying Ford's notes are speculative given how long we've been waiting on various promised features to be delivered.

I'm really looking forward to using the built-in android automotive instead of trying to connect my phone each time via Apple Car Play or Android Auto. Native android on the next car sounds amazing.

Native android may not be what you think it is... for instance my TV runs Android... Automotive Android is not the android in your phone.

I doubt ford would do it but it would be amazing if ford sold a Head Unit upgrade kit so that 2021-2024 models could get this.

They won't but likely a little hackery and you could install the sync module in a current cars. I retrofit a sync 3 module into a 2013 Lincoln MKZ to upgrade from sync 2 (Microsoft) to sync 3 (blackberry )

I did the same thing…….hopefully Ford offers this upgrade…..that would be nice.

They should but would your pay ford retail for it ? My guess would be somewhere between $1500 - $2500 installed

That all depends on the features but when I upgrade to CarPlay in my 2014 explore sport it was a great selling point.
