What I heard from the analysts most manufacturers will cut production in 2023-2024 to avoid price reduction. Tesla can't do that, they sell investors growth story. I suspect Tesla will keep adjusting prices up or down depending on demand. They would rather take a hit in profits than in deliveries.
I am pretty sure they're still making money on each car they sell. I am not an tesla fanboy or elon follower but it's a pretty solid strategy to undercut the competition to get volume out there. Especially with Ford being their biggest competitor getting caught with their pants down at the moment.

If Chevy releases the EV Silverado at their launch prices, they're going to cut into lightning sales since ford has gone nuts with increasing costs there too.

I know some people are loyalists and no matter what they dont stray but if they're not BMW or Mercedes, they cant outprice themselves to their direct competitors. Ford is in an interesting position and need to act fast. Model Y prices will kill MachE orders and again, if Chevy can get their SilvERado out there at close to launch prices, the Lightning will get hit quick.

Agreed on both counts
We bought our MME in May 2022 because of the rebate over the MY (Also looks) and I think the pricing will stay but rebate might change because of battery contents(China).
Bought mine in June 2022.

There's some kind of a vesting schedule in the IRA for the % of materials from other countries. It gets more restrictive by year. Suggests to me the real race is not on pricing, but for supply of raw materials for battery components.

What is Ford's short term/long term plan for battery production?

Existing batteries are made by LG in a plant in Poland, the plan going forward is to make them all in the US.

For next steps, Ford planned to open a battery R&D center in Michigan.

Not sure that actually happened. Feels like there would be more PR around the opening, the people working there, etc.

Ford absolutely needs the R&D center because the LG battery costs a lot to build and the tech is obsolete by 20 years. The fact no one has been been waving a flag about progress is concerning.

Hey, can you please change the name of this thread? Perhaps “Tesla Talk”, we now have 33 pages and it is one of the most talked about topics on the whole Mach E forum! ?

Yeah, they really need to be building their own if they want to stay competitive. Crazy.

Thanks for the info!

I’m in the never-a-Tesla camp. Put a minus sign in front of the price and I’ll consider it, but until then.
I left that camp, my next car might be a Model Y Performance or a Model X Plaid. Can't argue with them being significantly faster cars for less money.

$117k SUV that is possibly faster than every Lamborghini produced? $112k sedan that is DEFINITELY faster than every car ever made?

Model Y Performance is no joke either, 11 second car in the quarter mile for like $50k after factoring in the incentives?

Teslas also have significant range advantage at each price point.

And also the absolute best charging options and network than any other EV manufacturers.

One thing that is not brought up a lot is the cost to insure and repair the Tesla. Typically the insurance cost is a lot higher then other cars because the repair costs for tesla are typically a lot higher than other brands. There are only a select few body shops that can even work on a Tesla because Tesla will not ship parts to non approved shops.
