I decided today to update the modules on my 2021 Job 1 ER RWD. I had OBCC, GWM, BCM, and HVAC updates. I had some problems with the updates. I got a communication failure when I tried to update the HVAC, so I started with the GWM. I was able to write the files to my USB flash drive, but unlike last time, the car either gave a USB device is charge only or it could not read the device. I tried another Flash drive and got the same result. I then failed the update, exited the update, and then ran the GWM update again using the new flash drive. It did not download things again, but it did update when I plugged the new drive in the car.

The BCM and OBCC programmed fine. I still had a problem with HVAC, so I exited FDRS and started FDRS again. I selected HVAC and it downloaded the update again. This time it worked.

It took a couple of attempts to clear the DTCs. The SOBDM had an invalid data from GSM DTC. When I started the car later to go shopping I got a bunch of failures, like AdvanceTrac, BLIS, Hill Start Assist, and Front Camera. I got similar errors when I started for home, but after a few minutes things started working again. I am going to check things with FDRS again tomorrow.

Previously the CBZMAP went from MU5T-14H394-AAP to MU5T-14H394-AAR sometime in January or earlier in February.

I ran into something similar when I did the OBCC, HVAC, and GWM.

I started with the GWM (as is my practice normally) and then proceeded to do the OBCC next.

Well I thought it went fine...but after the OBCC finished and I was sent back to the main available software menu to start the HVAC I kept getting a "cannot communicate with the vehicle" sort of nonsense.

I tried different things and then shut the car off, shutdown FDRS, and restarted, reconnected, and was surprised to see a pant-load of orange for over half of the modules...they were showing all green before I shut down. One of the ones that was showing orange was the HVAC...so that's why I couldn't do the update on it, cause there was an error...and you can't program an update if the module is showing an error at the time. So just be aware...that interruption of communication between modules when you are programming can cause DTCs that won't be shown after the update is done.... (FDRS continues to show the last module status displayed before you did the update). So you might in fact have a bunch of modules that are in an error state and FDRS doesn't show that until you go back and check for DTCs and clear them again.

So I cleared the CMDTCs and retested all green...then the HVAC updated fine.

Afterward I ended up with a SOBDMC error with bogus data coming from the gearshift module. This seems to be a regular thing that happens after doing many updates. I don't know why but it's been going on for me for a while.

I ran the self-test with on-demand on the SOBDMC several times and although the DTC did clear it said the on-demand test failed.....don't know what that was about. But the SVS error got cleared and the car drives fine with no issues and is back to all green on the modules.

It might have been the SOBDMC that gave the error in my case instead of the SOBDM.

I seem to remember someone else mentioning a while ago about getting multiple failures when driving after an update and then it cleared a short while later. I did see comments about AT&T's cellular network going down the same day, so I do not know if the disruption of connected services had any effect.

My EV Tech at the very good local Ford dealership has told me several times now that the Mach Es and especially the F150 Lightnings are susceptible to internal communication network "problems" which aren't really persistent. This EV Tech thinks that as our cars age, this will likely increase but is not really a showstopping fault.

Is there a chance that Ford changed the IPC update software after the initial delivery to address the issues about the centered speedometer and animations? I had a failed 6.8 delivery OTA, and last weekend I did a stack of FDRS updates including the IPC, and afterward SYNC shows the 6.8 update now completed successfully, but my 21 J1 still has the centered speedo and animations if I turn off lane centering. I’m fully up to date on all FDRS updates as of last Saturday.

I hooked up FDRS today and checked the DTCs. The main problem was the ABS reading the steering wheel angle with several other modules having problems with the ABS. Clearing and doing a self-test turned some orange to totally green.

Has that update been pulled? All updates are complete but there was never an IPC.
It has not be pulled. You are most like affected by an issue on Ford's side where a GWM is not being released which is necessary for the IPC update to be released. Is your GWM currently on the LKB/LLB version?

new update yesterday/today just dropped. Do TCU updates require you to be on a power supply or is it a plug in and update deal? Wont be able to plug in and see until after work.

maybe for tesla plug and go charging?

It will install while your car is running. You don't need the PS for this one.
