I have a Premium on Michelin Primacy’s and would agree I have substantial road noise. Would like to go to a 20” wheel and tire but man it better be quieter.

This is common in heavier vehicles if the tires have not been rotated, I would rotate the tires and see if the noise goes away

Just thinking ahead. When I replace the OEM Premium tires, what set of tires are less noisy? I took my first long-ish trip today and over rough highway the road noise was deafening. I noticed the noisiness on shorter trips but at slower speeds the volume of it was acceptable.
This is surprising to me. I test drove an MME recently and immediately drove my ID.4 over the same route. I didn't feel that the MME was discernibly noisier.

18" wheels and 225/60/18 104V Vredestein Quatrac tires they are incredible.
It even got rid of much of the bounciness of the cars ride.
Funny you mention Vredsteins. I'm restoring a '53 XK-120 and those were recommended to me for this restoration. Some of the fellas on the 120 forum hate them, some love them. They ARE more pricey in some sizes. Most avoided are Michelins it seems. It's hard to avoid a bad fit when installing radials on a car designed for bias ply, buying a set you like, for whatever reason, is a personal thing.

Not quite like arguing about the proper softness of upholstery foam, but close.

Try Continental Extreme Contact in 245-50R19. I put those on mine and love them. Performace is in a total other league then the stock tires. And quieter too!
After much research I bought these same Bridgestone tires Guy described for my Honda Clarity PHEV last November and they have been excellent. If you pardon the pun, tire selection for EVs involves a battery of compromises and these tires worked out well for me in terms of range, winter traction and braking, noise and cost.

On good/decent roads like city streets, it's barely noisier (minimal)... but I started noticing it going 75mph on toll/interstate roads that were not smooth. I'd driven the same route on the ID.4 and MME multiple times (to Disneyworld basically). I don't know exactly what it is... maybe the MME with it's 5.7" ground clearance (almost the same as the Model 3's 5.5" ground clearance) matters? The ID.4 has 8.2"and Model Y has 6.6" clearance. Maybe the tires? Maybe the underside of the MME isn't sealed/dampened.

Maybe not comparable but an old pre-double paned Model Y was measured to be quieter than a Model 3.

I personally think the Model 3 is about as noisy as the MME.

I spoke to another ID.4 owner at an EA charger stations yesterday and he test drove the MME and the ID.4 on I-75 and found it rougher + noisier. The MME was supposed to be his first choice but he picked the ID.4 because he takes long family road trips. I warned him about the glitches... lol.

The MME drives and handles better than the ID.4 and Model Y so it's a minor trade off to me.

Anyhow... I should bring a device to measure the decibels to have a baseline and in the future when I replace the tires... remeasure to confirm.

EC DWS06 Plus all-seasons
This all day. The DWS 06+ is the only all-season tire I use on my vehicles. The snow traction is outstanding. I've also notice them to be quieter versus OEM Michelin selections for my previous Ford vehicles.

Interesting. My ID.4 is obviously quieter than either Model 3 I've owned.

I would look at Tire Rack reviews, which break down comfort scores into ride and noise ratings. I've been eyeing the Vredestein Hypertrac All Seasons, which are top rated for noise in the category and are available in the 245/50R19 size that I expect to replace stock tires with once they wear out.

I now own a 2022 Premium AWD ER and have to say the stock/OEM tires are trash.

I've been able to measure dB levels of the various EVs + PHEVs I've owned since owning my first Mach-E (Premium RWD SR). And of course experienced the silence that is the Ioniq 5.

On smooth highways, the new MME is 65-67 dB. Very similar to the first MME and other EVs and PHEVs like the RAV4 Prime.
On unsmooth highways it's deafening: 83 dB on "smoother" sections and 93+ dB on rough sections. This is MINI electric bad.

I'm trading up to a GTPE soon and will be happy to be rid of these crappy stock tires on the Premium.

Given it's weight, what is the recommended rotation mileage for the MME?

The ID.4 and Model Y were quiet. The Model Y had a bit more wind noise. I already noticed this tire noise driving on local streets but it is high speed it's more than audible.
If the ID.4 and MY have less noise, why not get the same tires those have? Same stretch of road? I agree with most here. I don’t consider the Primacy tires noisy. Crappy grip, oh yeah.

Tire noise is one of those totally subjective things for people. Sometimes someone actually refers to a controlled environment with instrument measuring, like Consumer Reports might do. Most of the time it's a totally subjective assessment based on their opinion. And comparing cars, which have totally different sound dampening features, driven on different days, with likely different tire pressures, and different weight loads on the tires, ...

I agree that there is no noise issue with the stock tires.

Not subjective when measured via dB meter :)
