I have used the Prescott EA chargers, they work fine. North of Phoenix, there are exactly zero compatible Tesla chargers along I-17, nor in Prescott. Also no CCS chargers between Anthem and Prescott.

On I-17, north side of Phoenix there is one compatible Tesla site (Happy Valley Road), one EA site (Anthem) and one Circle K site (also Anthem). I would use one of those, coming from Tucson.
Great information. Thanks!

Very reliable EA location. Have used it several times.

The plug at the end on the right has failed both times I've tried it, and that is with several months in between attempts. I suspect it has major issues with other vehicles as well since it's always open when all the others are in use.

The absence of a charging location north of Anthem (Sedona or Flagstaff only alternative) is prohibiting my astronomy and hiking trips to Happy Jack or Stoneman Lake area.
I used Sedona EA once, OK but out of the way. And going further North to Flagstaff is time lost. At least Tesla has Camp Verde "in planning" Supercharger Coming Soon..

We drive between Tucson and Flagstaff (round trip) a few times a year. And between Flagstaff and Phoenix a dozen or so times a year.

If we take the 17 through Phoenix, I only ever make a single charging stop between Tucson and Flagstaff. Usually at the Anthem EA station or the Circle K across the street, but sometimes we stop at one of the many SC stations somewhere along the 17 in the Phoenix metro area. Where we stop depends on mealtimes, restroom breaks, etc.

If we take the 77 through Oracle and Globe, we usually stop in Payson, though the speeds along that route are low enough that we don’t have to charge in Payson and can make it to Flag without a charge...if we really want to. But again, we usually stop for a meal and break anyway. From Payson you can take the 260 through Camp Verde and over to Prescott. It’s a much prettier and less stressful drive to go through Oracle, Globe, Payson, and CV. But there’s some backtracking once you get to the 17.

If you have the ER, you could make it to Prescott without a charge, but you’d have to be willing to go to <10%. And you might have to take the climb up to Sunset Point slower than you prefer. I don’t recommend that for someone who hasn’t taken a road trip before. And especially if you’re not familiar with the charging options available.

You should probably enable Plug & Charge in the FP app and make sure you have a valid CC on file so it functions properly. It will make this trip much easier for you if you use EA or Tesla charging stations.

Before you leave for your trip I would also recommend going to an EA and Tesla charging station local to you and use them. It will help you get familiar with the process of using a DCFC and it will also let you if your P&C is setup correctly.
Good advice. I plan to do that. I signed up for Blue Oval and Tesla app. IT seems plug&charge not available on many of the chargers I researched.

Yeah, that stretch in the mountains makes a no charge trip unlikely. I do have ER.

Yeah, I think it’s not worth it.

I would stop at the SC in Happy Valley or the Circle K or EA in Anthem. Happy Valley has better meal options.

Good advice. I plan to do that. I signed up for Blue Oval and Tesla app. IT seems plug&charge not available on many of the chargers I researched.
If you have a credit card on file with Ford (Blue Oval Charge Network) and Plug and Charge enabled on the FordPass app (Energy>>Advanced>>Access & Permissions>>Plug & Charge slider “on”), Plug and Charge will work for all Electrify America and compatible (“open to non-Tesla”) Tesla Superchargers, but only those two. It’s a nice feature if you’re only going to DCFC once or twice a month. Any more than that and you might do better by purchasing a monthly membership plan with either one of those through their respective app. Then you will get a reduced per kw rate that will start saving you money by the second or third charge in a month. Those plans can be purchased by the month (cancel right after purchasing a month and it will be valid for a month only). The Tesla P&C connects quicker - maybe 10-15 seconds and EA takes longer - maybe 30-45 seconds. Give it a test before you go - you’ll like it!

For simplicity at EA and/or Chargepoint chargers I have my best luck activating them with the FordPass app. Also convenient to have all chargers billed through Ford. If you have never charged on the road, you may still have free kwh coming from Ford if tht was a part of your package. My first trip from Phoenix to Santa Fe and back was all for free. with still a few remaining. Another reason to use FordPass. Once you do a trip or two, you will wonder why you were concerned. Range anxiety goes away. Plan your trip on your in-car navigation and the car will tell you where to charge.
