Had a very interesting 3 hours at the Ford Technology Centre in Dunton yesterday. As I have a preorder for the new Explorer, I got an invite to go for a face to face, a bit like I did for the MME when that did a tour back in the day. I'll be cancelling the order. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice looking vehicle but NOT nice enough to tempt me out of my MME. I think I would be taking a backward step. No 1PD, same driver aids, no frunk, haptic controls instead of buttons ( I like my buttons). Although no details as yet, probably smaller batteries and less range. I have been spoilt with my MME.
It has been 3 years in the making but I finally got to meet Rebecca. Those of you early adopters may remember her as the concierge. Those of you who also remember Hannah, who took over her roll, will be sad to hear that she passed away earlier this year.
Blue Cruise for MY21 cars? Official line, it will be coming just don't know when. I'm not bothered as I won't be using it anyway. Can ONLY be used on motorways. I'm an hour and a half from the nearest one and only use them every 2 months or so, so not very cost effective. Forgot to ask about Ford Secure for MY21 cars but imagine the answer would be the same. Seems to me that we early adopters have been shoved to the bottom of the pile and forgotten.

Sorry to hear about Hannah, she helped so much early days of the MME.

We went on Saturday, the explorer is definitely not geared to compete with the MME and face much competition from Volvo's EX30.

I have noticed that both the dark horse and now the explorer gains a clear exit assist feature, not sure if that's a new module or if it can be added with the existing setup.

In person the colour and design was better than expected and depending on the asking price might be an option for some.

I wonder if it inherits the VW group buggy software?

Although it uses the VW MEB platform and a lot of the components and switches at least the UI is Ford's. It is the same/similar to that what is in our MME's so shouldn't be anymore buggy than it already is ?. In theory, should be better.

Yes, we think our MME software is bad, I would hate to be a VW group owner. I have a relative who owns a VW Touran plug in hybrid (given to him by work) and he can't wait to get rid of it when the lease is up due to buggy unresponsive software.

They are going to use Android Auto, like the volvo EX30, Polestar which hopefully would be better but the haptic buttons remain from VW on the windows.

They only had the prototype car, without any usable screens was hoping to play around and see if its any good but that will have to wait till September when they will have functioning versions of the explorer in the UK

Will be interesting to see. We might be pleasantly surprised.

Ford Secure was introduced as a new subscription on the 2022 models onwards. To my knowledge it‘s not been made available to any of the 2021 builds.

Before you get serious FOMO let me tell you that it doesn’t offer such a wide range of functions as it did initially as it was designed to work in conjunction with the now defunct SecuriAlert.

The biggest feature is that if your vehicle is stolen the thief cannot just perform a master reset to shut you out of being able to location track your car. With Ford Secure a reset requires an authorised FordPass user to confirm the action before a reset can be performed and that then gives you a 60minute window to do it (think of it like a two factor authentication). Ford have also setup a tracking centre, and if you report your vehicle as stolen they will work with the police to provide location information to assist with recovery.

Other features it originally offered that have now been removed was the ability to set up perimeter beacons. You could set your home location plus a chosen range, and if the car moved outside that perimeter boundary you would get an alert.

I did do some screenshots in a previous post back in May, I’ll pop them below for reference, but as mentioned all the location alert stuff has now gone.

Umm I don't have a Ford Secure option either in Ford Pass app or my online Web account and mines a MY23

3.5.4 just updated. Quick look, nothing visibly different.

Can anyone enlighten me?

The SecuriAlert feature has been removed from the App and is being replaced, for new models, with Ford Secure (potentially very useful, subscription based, feature).

Why is this not available for earlier models? I’m thinking it only requires an OTA update?
