I think you’re probably about right though I’d always go for the higher rate at super fast charge points.

I make it, for a c440 mile round trip, the first c250 miles on 2.9mls/kWh @ 17p/kWh home charge and 190 miles at 85p/kWh with Shell, Ionity, Insta etc would’ve cost me c£70 in total.

An ICE of similar size and quality running at around 45mpg if you’re lucky would have been around £57.

It’s the public charge rate the providers are allowed to charge which racks up the cost.

The public wants what the public gets and whilst the current crop of crooks are voted in and fill theirs and their mates’ pockets like pigs in the trough, unregulated public charge providers will charge what we have no choice but to .

I would say I’m happy to pay the extra if it were supporting the NHS, homeless etc but lot landed ponces with duckhouses ?

Even though my average day is c320 miles, and I do think you have to look at the wider picture when working out overall economics, I think I’m still well on the right side in an EV with 73,000 miles on the clock.

Shout up when you come to Meadow Lane, DV.
20th April... little trip up North to Notts County... you can let me know best chargers near the time for the triumphant trip home!!

Don't forget that petrol and diesel cost is at a 2 year low at the moment so any further world economic instability would mean those costs shoot up again. As an aside, I went to shop at Sainsbury's at Kingsway Retail Park in Derby on Friday and as you exit out of the retail park you pass the Sainsbury filling station. Guess what, there was a large hand written sign that pumps 5 and 6 had run out of diesel. There was still a queue of cars at these pumps and the filling station staff were announcing over loudspeaker for people to move as they were blocking access to the other pumps. I couldn't help feeling smug as I wafted by the queues. ?

I bet this won't be on any YouTube channel. If there had been a queue of EVs it would have gone viral.
There is that, but I've also had to wait for over an hour to get on a charger at Beaconsfield....worst services ever.. on a freezing January night, turning a 2 hour trip into a 4. Still love the EV though, if it was just short hops from home then I'd be laughing, it's the longer journey's that get a bit painful.

Never bother with Beaconsfield. I bet you drove past the very best chargepoints in the UK if you went down M40.

Look up Stroud Park InstaVolt. Around 38 chargepoints.

I can't get a smart meter at the mo, no signal apparently... otherwise I'd switch and get the cheaper rate. I've been a bit lazy when it comes to cost at chargers as 90% of those sessions I claim back through work, (worst was £1 a kwh at Shell). I know it's probably been all over these threads Wonky, but how do I get the IONITY discount?

Gridserve Norwich a personal favourite by the way...
I hadn’t considered that that could be a thing where people couldn’t get a smart meter due to signal issues - that sucks.

Shell’s recent p/kWh increases really have put them at the top of the table for insane prices- it’s almost like they don’t want you to charge up and to use fossil instead …. I wonder why ?

The question about how to get the IONITY discount hasn’t come up in a long time so it’s worth a mention. It’s not right for everyone because it depends on your usage pattern of public chargers.

Basically you get a heavy IONITY p/kWh discount for the first year of Mach-E ownership through Ford’s free Blue Oval Charge Network membership. After that first year you have the option on your subscriptions page (www.ford.co.uk/dashboard) to renew the BP Pulse and or IONITY deal. The IONITY one costs £149 to renew for another year. Sounds like a lot but the discount brings IONITY charging down from 74p/kWh down to 36p/kWh. (38p/kWh discount)

You can do the math to work out how many kWh of charging you need to make it worthwhile (spoiler alert it’s ~393kWh) If you do more than that you’re saving money.

This is not the same deal as IONITY’s own “Passport” subscription which is £10.99 a month for an 18p/kWh discount. (needing 732kWh of charging a year to start saving)

Hope that helps… anyway glad you like the Gridserve station at Norwich - a little pricey now at 64p/kWh - which is probably why it always looks empty when I drive past it on my way to Lidl ? I live 5 mins away so if ever in the area always welcome to come say Hi ?

Oh man! That’s less than ideal. I’m so impatient right now, I’d struggle under your circumstances. I’m tempted to 3D print a to scale model of the MME to tide me over until it the real thing arrives. Lol.
I waited 10 months before my custom order MME was delivered to me.

Also Lockheed Close Banbury - just down the road from the Instavolt chargers. Has many Osprey chargers and Tesla chargers the latter being the best price apparently.

Seem to be downloading 6.1.0. Anyone know what it does?
Just got it, too, night before a 350 mile day out, can’t wait (NOT) to struggle with everything in the wrong place and bings that binged will now bong and things that bonged will now bing, pings will doing and I’ll be a frazzled mess by High Wycombe?

Did you see that Shell had announced a connection charge but then did a Tory (U-turn?)

I know - as if the pricing wasn’t highway robbery as it was! LOL - I think we can class that as a PR fail ?

Anyway, now the angel of the Ford came down from on high to a lowly car shed in the East [Midlands] after the glory of the 6.1.1 shone down, the Pony’s at the Hayrack so all is calm for a Silent Night before the hellfire ride out tomorrow.

Gonna try to make Camb Svcs before I need power, they were installing another 6 or 8 Ionities last time I was there?

Can you imagine if they tried to charge petrol vehicles a fee to use the petrol pumps. ?

But somehow it was a viable option for EV users? LOL

Ooooh more IONITY’s at Cambridge Services? Awesome- there were starting to get a bit busy ?
