do you have a battery installed to store your solar energy?
No battery excess electricity generated goes to the grid and I get a pittance for it. With the zappi charger the car acts like a battery in that all the electricity generated not used by the house goes into the car as long as it is parked at home during solar generation which in my case it is most of the time. My brother who works during the hours of sunshine has a battery then charges his nissan leaf from the battery. It all depends on your circumstances whether you have a battery or not.

There is no doubt that in the future the mme will be able to act as a battery to power the house at peak times and then charge during off peak. The technology is already out there - check out leaf to home.

There is a lot of chatter from our US friends who have taken delivery of their cars regarding PAAK and Android phones. It would appear that they are having issues setting up and using PAAK with phones with android version 11. As PAAK is not available in UK this aspect doesn't concern us. However, it might be advisable NOT to update your phone just yet just in case. The ballsache in this is that I updated mine last week before reading these posts. Hope v11 doesn't affect any other functionality.

I understand the whole PAAK thing - but I do find it weird that we can still have remote lock/unlock using our phones and the FordPass app.

There are regional variations of FordPass (yes there is a specific UK variant) - but it still allows lock/unlock. So if we have that why do insurance companies get in a tizzy over PAAK?

@portlandg - I wouldn’t run to Rebecca for clarification - as we know how that panned out last time - stuff got switched off!

Insurance group details are attachment #7 in the Wiki

Although the Mach-E is a much higher group than my current car, I managed to get a quote from the Meerkats for £240 a year which I thought was pretty good.

You mentioned that because it was a new car it was an unknown and likely to be higher - that’s not how insurance companies work these days thankfully. The car has been analysed and rated based on construction, replacement cost, and accident prevention safety features.

Hope this helps ?
What company did the meerkats say would give you that? The cheapest they told me was £505. That seems a huge difference just for extra drivers

So I have one additional driver (other half) - who had a claim within last 5 years (non fault biff) and both AVIVA and General Accident will cover fully comp with protected no claims for less than £240.

Now I’m confused. What more do you get with PAAK if we can use the app on phone to lock/unlock. I thought this was PAAK. Also does anyone know if a second fob can be purchased ( and for how much)?

Thx. I got a quote from Aviva - same as you but with another three drivers - £486 if paid annually. I did have legal and personal accident cover but no breakdown as Ford give you that for a year

To be perfectly honest with you, I have NEVER used fordpass. I have had issues with it for the last 4 years in my current Kuga. I had subscription to live traffic updates. Doesn't work if you have Andoid Auto connected. I have to go to apps settings on my sync 3 screen because it won't start automatically. It's just a big phaff. My only concern is that we WILL need to use it to get access to the Fordpass charging network. I have an open mind on that but my feeling is that we are going to end up using individual rfid cards. I hope I'm wrong but we will wait and see.

Apparently, because we can't utilise PAAK we should be getting 2 fobs as standard.

... but didn't you get a FordPass RFID card to access the charging network? - that's the one card to rule them all :)

Yes I did. I forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me? I just didn't think it was a rfid card as I couldn't see a chip or magnetic strip. I'm sure all will become clear in due course.

RFID chips are tiny and embedded within the plastic along with an induction loop aerial to pick up power from the reader - so not like a bank card where you also have a chip that has contacts on it for reading (like a phone SIM).

I've also been doing some research - PAAK is now allowed in UK. So whatever issues the insurance market had against it seem to have been resolved. (BMW & Honda are both pushing it on current and new UK cars) ... but as with all these things until we actually get a car in our hands we won't 100% know for sure!
