I’ve genuinely never thought the ride quality to be an issue. I had an e class AMG before this and it’s pretty similar even on the roads around here which can be bad. It’s firm, but no more so than any other sporty car
i think what i have is the pitching motion. i used to think it was the asphalt roads around us but most British roads are that. it's only our motorways and a few others that are concrete.

i live in Bucks. i drove to Chester a few times and noticed that the ride was better there.

does my county have worse roads than all of yours?

i have no idea.

maybe i should do a test drive in one of y'all's vehicle to get a comparison :).

but then, the ride quality thread is the longest and most active thread in this forum, so there's something.

i mean no one in my family gets motion sickness and no one has but the comments from my fam are increasing to the stage when i drive with them, i get super conscious of the minutest bump.

that's not how i want to drive. i want to enjoy the car and hence all this.

woops, that was long. sorry.

Just to chuck in another thought- Road repairs.

The state of the uk's roads are really poor. Potholes are rarely repaired and when they are it's a bodge job.

Until mid 2017 I lived for many years in West Sussex, near East Grinstead. Just across the border into Surrey was the A264 near Felbridge. This is a very busy road with lots of heavy traffic. Near a busy Petrol station was a series of very deep car devouring potholes (probably caused by HGV's braking as cars drove into and out of the forecourt) Hardly a week went by without local media reporting how many cars were being damaged. Now this is a wealthy area but the council just turned a blind eye- eventually they repaired (bodged it) and within a fortnight the potholes were back. And on it went for years!

I happened to drive down this road in late 2019 and it was worse than ever. Unforgiveable. From what I've heard from old friends who live nearby it's still bad.

Sorry, my turn to ramble- the point is that road surface seems to alter lots depending where you live. Now I live in Cornwall and to my surprise and delight the roads are very smooth and well maintained. Don't have any problems with ride quality with my Mach-E. It's not an issue. But, when I drive into Devon over the Tamar bridge, the road quality is different. Still good but not quite as good. And I can feel the difference.

Different county, different roads...

I've been on holiday to the Isle of Wight and most of the roads there are billiard table smooth. ( The Military Road on the Western coast is a joy to drive on.) 487 million pounds of investment have been earmarked via Island Roads https://islandroads.com/faqs/

The suspension is perfect on these roads, but back in Derbyshire, oh well the less said about that the better.

picked up my car from Gatwick yesterday after 18 days. Glad to report no issues on starting. Parked with 74% charge, came back to 74% charge. Apart from being back home, all is well

Charging in the IOW is terrible though. I was there last year and only managed to use the charger in the ferry carpark.

Hi Sasha
Yes the public charging infrastructure there is abysmal. We put gentle pressure on the owners of the holiday cottage to have an ac charger installed. Perhaps you could do the same for where you stay. Obviously they charge a little extra on the holiday rate for the electricity being used but it's worth it for peace of mind. The UK tourist industry has got to wake up.

Hello all,

Reference one pedal drive, does this mode have any negative affect on regenerative breaking?

Many thanks.

Hi Tom

Not quite sure what you're asking as activating one pedal drive does activate regenerative braking. Switching off one pedal drive deactivates regenerative braking. Perhaps I've misunderstood the question?

Edit: I now bow down to the experts (Wonkey and Portlandg) with their answers which were more helpful than my reply. ;)

Hi Tom

Regenerative braking is present in all drive modes to some extent. Whisper mode uses it the least, Untamed uses it the most.

If you turn on the one pedal drive option in any of the drive modes it uses regenerative braking even more than usual which will return more energy to the battery when you slow down.

So to answer your question ... no OPD doesn't have a negative effect on regen, it makes it more efficient.

Hope that helps

Hello all,

There are three different ways to 'get' regenerative braking. The least efficient is just by using the friction brakes to slow down and stop. Next is by activating the 'L' button on the gear selector. This will enable a stronger regenerative braking effect but you will still need to use the friction brakes to come to a complete stop. OPD is the most efficient mode for regenerative braking. As soon as you lift off the 'go' pedal the motor(s) start to slow you down. Lift off completely it will bring you to a complete stop, unless you have misjudged the distance.
So in answer to your question, NO. It is the best way. I have not noticed any difference in the level of regenerative braking in any of the 3 drive modes though. That could be just me though.

Thank you for your responses all. I’ve only just started using OPD. now you say it, it does make more sense that OPD would give more regen.

Thanks as always guys.

Hi @TomW

One point to note - there was a problem (in the early days ..... about a year ago now in fact!) with brakes binding/scoring the disks (rear disks in my case) potentially due to not using the friction brakes when OPD activated.

I think this may have been resolved (via software update .... ?) but might be something to keep an eye on, and possibly turn off OPD occasionally and use the friction brakes.

Hopefully someone else might be able to confirm/advise on this,

Cheers
David

Hi all,

We went to Devon a few weeks ago from home (East Sussex), so I thought I would post a very brief update on range and charging.

Range/mKwH
Did over 400 miles in round trip, and averaged between 3.7 and 3.9. Mix of fast roads and motorway (A27 and M27) at 70mph, plus the usual slower A-roads (A31/A35/A30) on average about 50mph.

Charging
Only needed one Fast DC charge at the excellent Gridserve charges at the M5 Services (J30 Moto Exeter) at the start of the return journey.

Excellent set-up with 12 chargers (I think). Arrived 11:00 and busy but 2-3 free so connected straight away and up to 80% in 30 mins or so. On leaving all were in use - but it was a Monday lunchtime so that may explain it!

Backup was Starbucks Corfe Mullen on the A31 (as mentioned by @portlandg ) which looked good (2 InstaVolt 50 kw) but wasn't needed.

Hope this may be of interest!
David

I have scored rear discs I noticed them within a month of receiving the vehicle. Ford have now agreed to replace them (discs on order). I have never used OPD. I am now near 10k miles and they are no better. That said I do not tend to brake harshly.

Got into my car last night to go home from work and on my way realised that my update successful notification icon was showing on my main screen. When I arrived I pressed the icon and then details. What a disappointment. My update screen is still showing as up to date with the latest power up version as 2.1.0. I know I am on 2.3.0 as this is showing in my FP app from 8th Feb. Sat in the car for about an hour to see if I could see what had been 'updated'. Nothing stood out. I wish Ford weren't so secretive about their updates and told us more about what they are actually updating.
@David-HC, glad to be of help.
