2022 Mach-E RWD ER

Hi everyone- first post, and I have a couple of queries!

I am strongly considering a RWD ER as that fits our needs perfectly, but...

1) is it really right that there is no choice of colour other than Black?
2) I really need the car to have the £3k grant or else it becomes unaffordable. So am I right in thinking that if I choose silver, say, it'll effectively cost me £3800??

Also no way am I prepared to order without a road test and inspection. My local dealer (Vospers in Truro) has told me they can do this later in the summer as they have a few on order for stock and demonstrators. He's promised to keep in touch. We'll have to see...
Anyone else think the same and has anyone had a road test- or received their car?

I think there will be loads more questions!?
Stay safe everyone and look forward to the end of lockdown.
Tony
Hiya

Welcome to the forum!

To answer your questions ....

1) Paint choice does not count towards the cost in regards to the grant allowance. So you can order your RWD ER model in whatever colour you like - it's available in 7 colours - and you will still get your £3k grant discount.

2) Nobody apart from the press have been able to test drive so far. Test drive vehicles for us mortals are expected in the coming weeks. As well as this no customers have received their cars yet - even those of us who ordered in Nov/Dec 2019. It's literally all we talk about on here! But they are on their way from Mexico, and we should start to see them in customer hands from May.

Many thanks for that. I looked on HM Gov website re the grant and it wasn't that clear. But good news if we can choose a colour even though it's at extra cost which seems a bit naff!

I take my hat off to you guys who've ordered but not driven a MME. I really hope you're not disappointed.

Looks like patience is the name of the game- still, at least that means the charging infrastructure should be a lot better...

I'll point you towards our UK Wiki which has quite a lot of info for those beginning their journey with Mach-E.... you can access it here

The GOV websites have notoriously complicated wordings on them, but if you check the Ford site it basically says that any optional extra that does not affect the powertrain of the vehicle doesn't count towards the cost in regards to grant eligibility. So this includes paint options, fancy wheels etc. Essentially there is just one model that has a base price over the grant limit, and that is the AWD Extended Range model at £57k.

...and yes - patience is a virtue we have all been tested on extensively!

If you are interested in charging infrastructure you may be pleasantly surprised to know that we currently have over 38,000 charge ports spread across 14,000 locations in the UK already, and over 4,000 of those are rapid chargers. Give the Zap-Map website a look for more info.

Just seen that Ford is offering a $1000 discount and some free charging to customers who have suffered delivery delays. Wonder if this will come our way?
Given the choice I’d rather take a grand off the price over a set of B&O Headphones ?

Free charging would be a fair offer for delays. But those who have been waiting more long term deserve real cash discounts.

I'm going with it being a mass replacement of 12v batteries at Anterp based on looking at the faults area of the forum and high profile a disaster it is if there is a mass fail with batteries leaving people stranded. Add to that the higher probability of issues as by May some will have been idle for the most part of 6 months.

Even if only a few cars did this all it takes that getting on watchdog or into a newspaper with people with sad faces and a stranded sod story and it will be hugely damaging.

I don't think they'll even do tests, they will yank them all out to be absolutely sure this launch is safe.

I don't think they will do the same with the screen buzz but in the next few weeks if it shows as being common then they might. But nowhere near a priority as a screen buzz story is something that would not be attention grabbing.

You could be on the right track but I don't see why they would hold them in Antwerp to replace the 12v. I would have thought it more practical to get the dealers to swap them. Unless there are other issues too that they don't want dealers to know about or fix.

They could be also doing QC check on screen buzz and also have you seen that thread on how to change the battery?! I suspect it's a cheaper process to get a team trained up to do all this and much quicker than educating dealers on the battery pull out and reinserting!

Or assign to dealers who charge back twice the price.

Do it all in one place by one team and that allows for any other issues that need attending to , the unknown unknowns!

Yes one team at one location is cheaper and more efficient. Plus by then their may be more issues that may have come to light by then.

it indeed would ensure consistency and peer pressure/QC to ensure everyone does an identical job and no corners are cut. I suspect if you outsource it individually people will do it wrong or not even bother.
