The heat pump is a tricky one.Good point-
My first EV, a 24kw Leaf Techna, had a heat pump and in the winter you could bask in warmth without any real range impact (note that lesser Leafs didn't have this) Surprised that Ford hasn't gone the heat pump route to be honest.
Regards styling- well quite so. The MME is the only EV that excites me. I used to be a Tesla fanboy, driven a few, but somehow now their appeal is fading for me. I watched a YT review of a Model Y against a MME earlier and as they said, the Y was ugly in comparison. Isn't it just?!
The other point that I keep seeing and hearing is that Ford's build quality is waaay superior. I never ever thought I would ever type that?.
Waiting for details to be able to book a viewing at Plymouth in May- if we like it I'll be ordering asap!
It adds cost and complexity but gives you a 4 to 1 improvement on heating energy consumption in ideal conditions. The trouble is their efficiency drops like a stone below zero which is when you really need them. What users should do is preheat their cabin whilst on charge and then turn heaters off initially. Use seat heaters and steering wheel heaters which use about 60watts. After a short time/journey heat will be recovered from the battery and motors.
Tesla have a very clever combined heat pump, air conditioner and cooling pump which is very interesting. The UK is considered too mild to justify the need by most manufacturers. Personally I would like one but I'm not sure I would pay £1500 for the option.
