INFORMATION REGARDING CHANGES TO THE OZEV GRANT FOR INSTALLING HOME CHARGERS

Hi everyone

This may be old news that I may have missed but I thought it might worthy of highlighting for those that are new to the group, or those that have still to arrange installation of an EV home charging unit.

To summarise:
  • The grant eligibility rules for home chargers are changing in March 2022.
  • After the change private homeowners will no longer be eligible for the £350 government grant.
  • After the change landlords of properties will become eligible for the grant so that they can install them for their tenants (residential & business)
  • After the change businesses will be eligible for the grant if they are installing charge points for visitor parking spaces (previously the grant was only available if installing charge points for staff parking)
The change is to allow more charge points to be installed by businesses such as Air B&B’s etc, and in blocks of rented accommodation.

So if you are in the process of buying an EV (or have already bought one) and live in privately owned accommodation with off street parking - you might want to start thinking about getting a charger installed before March 2022.

There’s not been a massive amount of publicity around this yet as the info has just gone out to installers etc, but thought I’d give you a heads up.

Hi Steve

Thanks for your posts ?

I had tried both Auto and manual settings - and had settled on manual with a temp of 22 C both sides, fan on 1 or 2, and set to the middle, and e-heat on (and A/C off) - so fairly similar to you!

This seems to work fairly consistently, and did so this afternoon (on the way to the gym!) when it was 14C outside.

However, returning from the gym, the same settings gave no heat - outside temp was then 16C so I had upped the temp setting to 24C to compensate for this but nothing ?

I had previously got the "full Auto" setting to work OK i.e. temp at 22C and then select Auto with e-heat selected. However this doesn't appear to work anymore. Also, as noted previously on this thread, if you select one of the vent settings it appears to exit Auto mode.

Finally a couple of weeks ago I thought I had heat without e-heat being on - I think I had set the temp to 25C and selected the A/C with no e-heat ....... but perhaps I was just imagining that ?

Overall, it seems somewhat ridiculous (and frustrating!) that no one at Ford seems able to provide definitive instructions (that are correct and actually work!) on how to heat the car e.g. the options available in different conditions and the efficiency and so on !!

I think I'll follow your approach until we hear anything more definitive from Ford!

Thanks again
David

Sounds to me that you like myself David have heating which sometimes doesn't work and it's nothing to do with settings.

I did a test with the heating this morning. I waited for a few miles (wait for the battery to warm up I guess) and put the heating on without Eheat. It was warm for about 5 minutes. Then it went cold. This is expected as it is taking the extra heat in the battery cooling system. When the energy is gone then it cools down. The battery doesn't give out heat like an ICE so I don't expect in cold weather for it to be a good heat source. The temp today is about 7C.
The Eheat is warm always for me though I think. Turning on the car remotely from my iWatch makes the car very warm in only 5 minutes. It uses a lot of power to do that though but then a s the cabin is warm the seat warmer is enough with the fan off then.

Good to see the government continuing to get behind pushing EV ownership, just as with the cut in the plug-in grant earlier this year.

Hello all.
Did a 160 mile round trip yesterday, and spent a fair chunk of that experimenting with climate control options. I think I need a lesson in what is supposed to do what, but this is what appears to happen (consistently) in mine, :
  • E-heat gives heat. Setting the temp to 22C was marginally too nippy for my wife, but 23C meant that we would turn E-heat back off again after 15-20 mins, then need it again a bit later.
  • A/C, based on yesterday's experience, seems to just mean "pump out cold air", no matter what I set the temp to, even right to the top of the scale.
I can't work out what is supposed to happen with the A/C button at all. If it meant "I will cool it down until cabin temperature is reduced to your setting, but I won't ever heat things up", I would think it was weird but I could at least understand the rules. But on the way home last night it was 9C outside, and I wanted 22-23C inside (although our Focus is always set at 20-21C, so the calibration differs). But even with the temp set to Max, turning A/C caused it to blow cold air almost immediately, and non-stop. We never lasted more than a few minutes before we had to turn A/C back off again.

We only have one version instead of the two on offer over there - but I thought I read that the one we have here is the Performance Edition? Difficult to compare the specs as they are all in different formats for US/EU. They probably smushed the two model specs into one and that's what we have.

What can I say - it's fast and expensive. To any potential buyers - good luck getting insurance on it ;)

UK Configurator has now updated with the 2022 options, meaning you can now order Grabber Blue or Cyber Orange on any spec, as well as the new Iced Blue Silver and Dark Matter Grey.

I am soooo close to ordering a Cyber Orange RWD ER and trading in my existing Mach-E.

Interesting how they have tweaked the options and pricing compared to last year, and fixed the renders of the interior to no longer include the ambient lighting on the RWD ER model.

Don’t get me wrong I love my existing car - but I’ve had a few snags and there are still unresolved issues because we are waiting for parts. Maybe a fresh start will re-invigorate my love (or open me up to a whole new load of snags) ?

Why not wait for the next 'refresh' model year? Where you will get improvements worth noticing.

That is also a very valid point - damn you for being the voice of reason ?
