Just had a call from the dealership they’ve moved my car over today as their “Expert” is on leave for a couple of weeks starting Monday. They’ve driven it from the compound no problems and initial diagnostics aren’t flagging up anything other than confirmation it went berserk when I tried to plug it into a fast charger. Said they cannot rule out HVBJB at this stage but it is currently showing no errors or damage to components. Will keep you updated ??
How odd. I wonder how they got it to drive when you couldn’t. I wonder if simply clearing the DTC codes allowed it to start. I always carry my FDRS laptop in the car so I can do pretty much what a dealer would do should I get into a similar predicament. Thank you for providing updates and keep them coming.

it was driven on to the transporter after the “specialist” spent half an hour clearing codes and doing some updates. He couldn’t at that point say what had caused it to go into meltdown just that it had.
i’m now really worried I’ve bought a car that is out of technological abilities ….

What interests me is the “updates” he did. Did you see if he was using FDRS?

FDRS is the software that dealers use to update modules in the car. I couldn’t imagine an AA man carrying that around, but it’s possible.

It wasn’t The AA guy, after they couldn’t figure how to tow it as zero power I called my dealership and to be fair kicked off a little they then contacted Ford in Birmingham who sent a “specialist” he turned up with a lap top, plugged in to the car and some charging cables! He said that he is basically a mobile version of what dealerships have

Very interesting….so a high possibility he was using FDRS.

I’d be very interested to see what modules he updated for you, which in turn made the car start. I can look up exactly what he did if you send me a private message with your VIN number (as I also have FDRS).

Im just super glad it doesn’t sound like the HVBJB. That would have been an absolute nightmare.

I always keep all the modules up to date in my car, but other people do not have that luxury. OTA updates will eventually update these modules but the UK is generally always way behind the US on these.

I took particular interest in your issue as I have the exact same car….including colour!

Hi, I am a Mach-E owner from Norway. I got updated all available updated software to my car last week (May 24) at the dealer. And my last updated Sync is Software Version is now: 22087_PRODUCT Revision: 415 (2.6.0).
A check today (June 03) in FDRS shows that I only missing the latest Sync update (G2171556-15-0), otherwise all modules are updated.
One question if anyone knows, are there cars in Europe that have started to get OTA on what is mentioned in the points below, possibly when will we get it ?
  • Fixed the brake pedal feel to allow for smoother braking.
  • Updated the charging curve to increase charging speed above 80%
These are two points listed under Power-Up 2.4.2 / 2.7.2 where Americans get it with BlueCruise.

Will send you a message with VIN number as I am intrigued too. I’m really really hoping it’s not HVBJB but the fact it went crackers after I tried to charge it on a fast charger makes me worry it possibly is.
I think whatever happened was made worse by 8 hours of doors/frunk opening/screen on which then flattened the 12V.

Well, that’s surprising. He updated your OBCC which is what I expected but he also decided your wireless phone charger and HVAC needed an update too. Then he did the GWM.

What’s even stranger is these module updates are still available.

For folks north of the border in Scotland, have you had success using the DC CCS chargers at any of the chargeplace Scotland locations? I am able to use the DC fast chargers at other providers like pod-point locations but the DC fast chargers (50kW) at Chargeplace won't start. All of the stations I've tried refused to begin charging my car. Oddly enough, the AC chargers at any of the Chargeplace stations were able to charge my car.

Anyone else come across this?
My success with the ChargePlace Scotland chargers and my MachE has improved since Oct 2021 when I got the latest copy of their RFID card, before then it was a fail every time. Recently on a trip in Scotland every fast charger (50kW) worked but frequently had to try twice to get it to (sequence - followed instructions, press start...fail, retap the RFID card leaving plug in and press start...success). Good value at 30p/KwH and good spread of locations.
Hope my experience gives you hope?

I have used the 50kW charges at Abington and Strathclyde but failed at Fort Augustus

Thanks for this, why would he not update everything while he was at it?
Will see what the dealership come back with tomorrow. Does it look like HVBJB to you? - won’t hold you to it!

I don’t think so. If it was HVBJB I don’t believe the car would ever have started again.

Some of these module updates can take hours, so that’s why he wouldn’t do them all. Saying that, I don’t understand 2 things. He updated the OBCC which makes sense as you were trying to charge when the car crapped out. But it seems unsuccessfully as it is still showing as a software update. The GWM he ran initially and then quit, probably because he didn’t have a USB device handy to finish the job.

I’m still under the impression that a simple DTC clear would have enabled the car to start again based on the FDRS logs I can see.

It wouldn’t surprise me if all you get from the dealer is “We updated the software and now it’s good”. We can check if that’s true using FDRS (if they say they updated modules) but I’ll bet if the car is working now, you’re gonna get it back that way….which doesn’t really resolve the initial problem (unless they actually DO get the OBCC updated properly).

I’m no expert, but certainly have a ton of experience updating modules…..more so than some dealers!
