Great advice.

I changed the number from the original Ford supplied one to a more memorable one to get round this.
You can't change the number that came with the car. That will ALWAYS be in the system. You just add another code that is more memorable to you, so if you have the Ford code written down somewhere make sure you rip it up. See page 64 of the online handbook

Service intervals are every 2 years for Mach-E, but this is a legacy thing from the Ford ICE vehicle era.

Basically you get 1yr of Ford Breakdown cover with a new vehicle, and the sweetner to encourage people to get it serviced annually was that if you took it in you got your breakdown cover extended every time.

Unfortunately that doesn’t work with the Mach-E, but some canny people are taking it in after 1yr for an “inspection” (not a service) to maintain that free breakdown cover for another year.

But you have to ask the question are the dealers charging for that inspection - and if so is the cost more or less than a year’s worth of breakdown cover?
Oh. So that means I've had no breakdown cover since September 2022 although I've paid for an extended warranty and service plan. Perhaps I shouldn't have? The dealer did ring me for a service check up in September 2022 which I think would have cost around £60 pounds. Nothing in writing just a telephone call. I didn't go ahead with it as the serice interval is 2 years. I'll need to confirm with them what the situation is with the AA cover sometime. Otherwise If I'm not covered I'll go with Boundless and use Britannia Rescue

I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions if you have a service plan and extended warranty - it may be bundled with that.

It was more for cheapskates like me who have no plans or extras in place :)

Yes you're right. I just had a sinking feeling about HVJB contactor failures and no recovery service.

You should be ok re HVJB - if you’ve had the software update done you shouldn’t get stranded because of it. That update was put in to ensure the car could continue to be driven in a reduced power mode if HVJB issues were detected.

Hi, I am the same as you with a service plan and extended warranty. At year 1 I had a lengthy discussion with the Ford service plan team and received the answer that:

1. The service plan does not cover the inspection / convenience services.

2. The breakdown cover only runs for 1 year therefore you need a service you had not planned for to extend the breakdown cover. NOTE: some dealers are not in the scheme that gives breakdown cover after a service therefore you need to make sure your dealer is in the scheme.

£59 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers gives you top level RAC cover for a year (on line price is £176). For £78.50 worth of vouchers you can also get Standard breakdown cover, plus key replace and 5 tyres replaced a year if damaged.

When I looked into other options like RAC I would have to buy a UK cover product and an additional product for European cover (I could be mistaken).

The Ford Assist is Europe wide cover so bit the bullet and paid for the Convenience check.

In the end I went with Britannia Rescue and as a Boundless (was Civil Service Mororing Association) member get £10 off bringing it down to £55 excluding Europen cover which I'm not bothered about as don't go outside UK driving. Still includes breakdown in your drive etc plus a driver to drive you and your car home if you're unable to drive due to illness or incapacity. Unfortunately something to consider as you get older  My dealer is in the scheme for extra breakdown cover when you have an extra service but this would in total come to nearly £80.00 so decided not to.

I've always been used to breakdown cover being provided for 3 years as long as the warranty lasts e.g. Mazda, Skoda, Seat, Citroen, Renault and I think even Fiat although remarkably I didn't need to use it for my 2008 Fiat Bravo although there were plenty of other issues to get my teeth into. ?

I reckon I’m paying c£175 for some kind of AA cover to ensure wherever whenever the Stang dies they get me and more importantly my tools home.

Am happy to pay this as I never pay for service plans, extra warranties, crap to “coat” paint & upholstery etc etc prefer to underwrite all risks myself apart from the obvs motor, buildings, PL, PI insurance and I reckon I’m quids in.

A checkout operator once asked me if I wanted extended warranty on a new £13 kettle, I asked her if she was mad?

Almost 51,000 miles on clock so warranty’s nearly up!

Think I might just run it into the ground, nothing wears, the “battery” won’t fail in its entirety as there’s over 90 cells in there which can be changed individually as/if/when they start to fail individually and its drop dead gorgeous even though I haven’t a scooby what’s going to work, how & when; aaaahhhh, my beloved Tesco shopping trolley ?

Please see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/advisory-fuel-rates

Half the way down the page the advisory fuel rate for BEV is 5p a mile. Wowee! Way to go to incentivise EV use.
Anybody using HMRC Advisory Fuel Rate to claim back business fuel cost? It’s currently 8p/mile rising to 9p/mile for EVs this month. I now calc my business fuel cost on pro rata basis. Fuel (leccy) for 3835 business miles cost me £494.77 (12.9p/mile) which I claimed back. Advisory Fuel Rate would’ve allowed a payment of just £306.80 (8p/mile) unless I claimed the full amount in which case I’d pay tax on it, too! I wonder if HMRC have a clue, or maybe they do!!

It’s called a convenience check @ £105.

Extends Europe wide Ford Assistance for a year. Cheaper than other breakdown quotes I looked at
Absolutely ??!
I had a Convenience Check done at 1yr to extend Ford Assistance, because it also includes EU breakdown. It basically most item’s covered in 2yr Service for Mach-e. Surprise was that many Ford Dealers offer their own breakdown instead of Ford Assist but no EU coverage, (i.e, TC Harrisons) so very important to check! I was off to Norway from UK by ferry to NL, driving through DE, DK ferry to NO and back definitely needed Ford Assist. (Amazingly impressed with EU Fast charger availability & access especially plug & play Ionity!)
