I don’t hate 1pd. Just don’t see the point. It makes sense for Tesla since they don’t have blended braking and want to take advantage of regen. The Mach e has blended braking though so what’s the advantage of 1pd? Given 2PD makes it easier to coast and therefore be more efficient, it’s really no contest.
Tesla didn't used to have blended braking but I'm pretty sure I had read that at least a year or two ago they now have it.

As for the use of 1PD... my main use for it is in stop and go traffic. Not going anywhere? You can just rest your feet solidly on the ground. Stopping and going frequently? You're just tapping the accelerator and then lifting off. It feels like a lot less effort compared to holding down the brake and shifting your foot back and forth often. No, those things don't take a ton of effort, but it's one of those things that needs to be tried to be appreciated, I guess. It makes bad traffic feel not quite as bad.

I also favor higher regenerative braking settings, as the car feels more responsive and there's a feeling of more control that way. Driving in Unbridled mode is good enough for me, but 1PD arguably takes that notion to an extreme. I could imagine why people like it.

Probably the only reason I don't use 1PD all the time is for tight maneuvering. I would still rather have the car slowly move itself while my foot is modulating everything with the brake. 1PD just doesn't feel quite responsive enough, and it's a bit too difficult to finely control, when you're maneuvering in something like a tight parking lot.

Unless you’re good at it.?

I din’t think 1pd had anything to do with it. He inadvertently turned cruise control on. It would do the same thing with 1PD on or off.
Actually, if I did not have one pedal drive on I wouldn't have had the issue I think.

I was expecting the car to slow by releasing the accelerator, and it didn't.

Assuming they were using adaptive cruise control, the system would have sensed an object in front and slowed or stopped. If there was no object in front, then the driver could have disengaged the system by hitting the brake (normal reaction to stop a car). Either way, I’m not sure I see the safety issue. Also, as others have noted, cruise control can’t be set below 15 MPH (unless you’re following another vehicle).
At work we develop safety-crtical systems, and we would refer to this not as a safety issue, but rather a startle issue. Startle issues can become safety issues, but aren't always. For example if you have a motor that turns on after closing an interlock, the motor cycling up would startle an operator, but with the cover closed, they might not be in any danger (covers prevent access to the motor).

however if they bypassed the interlocks, then yes. That would be a safety issue (motors are uncovered and could have people's fingers in it).

Lot of assumptions there. Maybe he would’ve been slowing down with his foot on the brake or maybe he would’ve been coasting and covering the brake pedal (like you do) or maybe neither of those things.

I get It. You hate 1PD. I love it. It’s not dangerous, IMHO. You moderate your speed constantly for the conditions with the go pedal. When you need to slow down more, you use the brake pedal as necessary. I haven’t hit anything yet.
yes. This is exactly the scenario I was operating under. And I love 1 pedal drive. So no issues there. In fact this morning I was driving my wife's ICE car, and had to adjust to using the brake again :-(

My wife has the car so I can't test it but I'm fairly certain I've activated it below this. But that's what I want - where I'm in stop and go and need to activate it and it defaults to 15mph. So I agree this thread is about user error vs. a safety issue.

I'm also confused because OP says his foot was coming off the brake but he was also in 1PD and parking... I don't think I've ever touched the brake pedal parking in 1PD. Either way, it would've happened 1PD or not since his foot was coming off the pedal. And I actually think at slow speeds, 1PD has an advantage. It starts decelerating as soon as the pedal is lifted instead of coasting until the brake pedal is engaged.
Sorry -- If I said coming off the brake I meant coming off the accelerator (intending to slow down as one pedal drive would do). But then it didn't.

So I was pulling into a parking spot the other day, and I was turning the wheel and my palm accidentally pressed the cruise control (blue cruise) button. I wasn't going more than 10 or 15 mph, but it set the speed anyway.

Then when I took my foot off the brake (with one-pedal drive turned on) it kept velocity to what the speed was set at .

Obviously I was expecting it to slow quickly, and it didn't, and I had to jam on the brakes.

No harm, but in other cars I recall there being a 2 step process to set the cruise control (or a minimum speed you must be at for it to take affect).

This feels like an operability problem.

Anyone else seen this?

Mike
I have done exactly what you described. The flesh part of my palm depressed the cruise control button and sped up quickly. Adrenaline boost! Lol

Ya I hate driving cars without 1PD now. I think it's similar to the joy of driving a manual transmission with the feathering and timing. The Bolt did not use 1PD for reverse and I didn't like it at first but now I'm all in for full time use.

Someone will have to chime in, though, but I always thought 1PD was more efficient regardless if it was blended braking or not.

And I did test it out this weekend and I can activate 15mph cruise anytime (i.e. not just over 12-15mph). Again I prefer that but I could see it being a shock if I ever hit the button unintentionally. I will say that I get mildly annoyed in my ICE when I have to hit two buttons to activate cruise... so to each their own ?

Very good points! I think there are several ADAS features that could fall into that category. I’m thinking of things like evasive steering assist.

If yours activates below 12 MPH in a clean config (no prior set speed) they must have made a change in the latest powertrain software (which I have). Interesting.

So in my intentional testing again last night, I was pressing the main cruise activator on and off so it should reset each time and count as a clean config? With that I was able to get 9 or 10 MPH as I was decelerating on a random road. Below that I got a message about being too slow that I've never seen before.

So could it be different on Bluecruise mapped roads too? Cause I could've sworn that I've activated it during stop and go at even less speeds/standstill without that message. My wife has the car on weekdays now so I'll need to test it again during a stop and go.

If there's a prior set speed obviously hitting the small center resume button will make you accelerate from a stop. But I think the focus here is on the larger side ON/OFF button which much easier to press accidentally with your thumb during a parking maneuver. In my brief testing I could only get the cruise to engage with the side button above 12 MPH (which is 20 kph), and it would set to the lowest allowed cruise speed of 15 MPH. So focus your testing on the side button only.

I was pulling into the parking lot at work this morning, 1PD, turning right, i must have hit the cruise control, as I unintentionally sped up passing a large green metal dumpster! Have to stay sharp at the wheel!

Ya I was using the main on/off button to test not the resume button. I tried to make it clear but apparently failed.

Finally got around to stop and go testing again. Ironically I can't replicate the error message about going too slow. I've been able to activate from any speed on the highway and a random road. I got the highway on video but don't know the best way to host/attach it.
