Tesla didn't used to have blended braking but I'm pretty sure I had read that at least a year or two ago they now have it.I don’t hate 1pd. Just don’t see the point. It makes sense for Tesla since they don’t have blended braking and want to take advantage of regen. The Mach e has blended braking though so what’s the advantage of 1pd? Given 2PD makes it easier to coast and therefore be more efficient, it’s really no contest.
As for the use of 1PD... my main use for it is in stop and go traffic. Not going anywhere? You can just rest your feet solidly on the ground. Stopping and going frequently? You're just tapping the accelerator and then lifting off. It feels like a lot less effort compared to holding down the brake and shifting your foot back and forth often. No, those things don't take a ton of effort, but it's one of those things that needs to be tried to be appreciated, I guess. It makes bad traffic feel not quite as bad.
I also favor higher regenerative braking settings, as the car feels more responsive and there's a feeling of more control that way. Driving in Unbridled mode is good enough for me, but 1PD arguably takes that notion to an extreme. I could imagine why people like it.
Probably the only reason I don't use 1PD all the time is for tight maneuvering. I would still rather have the car slowly move itself while my foot is modulating everything with the brake. 1PD just doesn't feel quite responsive enough, and it's a bit too difficult to finely control, when you're maneuvering in something like a tight parking lot.
