Update on Mach-E launch progress from engineering friends in Mexico

I assume that’s the front trunk lid? The latch catch (or whatever it’s called) looks odd. It almost looks like an afterthought - like “hey guys - don’t we need a latch to keep the front trunk closed? Go see if Sarah can quickly bend a rod over in the metal shop.” I was sort of expecting something less ... exposed - like on the rear hatch of my escape?

That thing looks like it will have a meeting soon with the top of my head. Maybe when I am loading in the Wings or shrimp for “Frunkgating” at a Brown’s game - although I may have to change the menu to pierogis and kielbasa.

My guess would be they still have to have it function as other hood latches, meaning a sturdy close and a second back up grab of the hood if the hood slips out of the first lock.

Would have added cost to put in the power latch like the liftgate has, vs the mechanical hood latch. Gotta draw the line on cost somewhere.

It's about following the money.
While there's no point crying over spilled milk, many people still wonder what led to the decision by Ford to drastically revamp its vehicle lineup for the United States about two years ago. Ford really put its foot down when it said that sedans will no longer be a part of its product offerings, and it definitely looks like there's no more turning back from it. The final nails in the coffin were the months leading up to now, with the last Fiestas, Tauruses, and Fusions rolling off the assembly lines. That just leaves the Mustang and Ford GT as the two cars left, with crossovers and SUVs taking over.

Talking to Ford Authority, Kumar Galhotra, President of Ford North American and VP of Ford Motor Company, said plainly: “They key here is, not just for us, the sedan segment itself has been in decline for a very long time, and that decline has been accelerating over the last few years.”
A huge part of it is understanding that every product/vehicle is extremely resource-intensive, and must be supported by logistics, suppliers, workforce, and factories with costs than can run into the billions. "The question then became, in that environment, of a finite amount of capital, where do we want to invest that capital? Do we want to invest it in a declining segment or do we want to invest it in a growing segment?”

That growing segment allowed Ford to focus its efforts elsewhere, allowing it to create a host of new products that will offset the loss of sedans. Besides, the sales numbers for crossovers and SUVs don't lie, and vehicles like the Bronco, Bronco Sport, Mustang Mach-E, and the Maverick compact pickup truck are well on their way to fill in the non-sedan portfolio. It makes perfect sense from a business standpoint and it's pretty obvious that automakers these days cannot afford to waste resources on what they see as a dying segment.

Now that we know the divider comes out easy. Kinda nice ford gives you that and Tesla doesn't have one.

Good to know that we can remove the divider if we want! I'm not going to be hauling unpackaged foodstuffs in there anyway!

Fun fact...my Infinite Blue Mach-e is going to be named Max because of this movie. I hope I can change the "Hey, _____" to Hey, Max to communicate with it.

Just suggest it when you get the car, and maybe an OTA update will have it.

I am a bit undecided on the divider. I think it might end up being very useful. I carry a folding crate in the back of our C-Max to keep stuff secure (groceries, purchases etc).

Having a nice place to place groceries up front with dividers so a gallon of milk doesnt smash the bread or eggs might be ideal.

I guess we will see how it works and then decide....

Yup. When the Mrs and I stop at the grocery store in my mustang I have to put the bags in the back seat - in the trunk they're just like the balls in the lotto machine bouncing off of one another. So, yes, I can see the frunk divider as really useful - especially the version with the notches for hooking the bag handles.

Of course the bags bouncing around in the trunk could also be my driving....

I suppose the divider might be annoying on a trip if trying to squeeze in maximum cargo space if it doesn’t come out easily, but day to day, probably more useful to have a temperature-controlled, subdivided storage compartment ready to go for groceries and the like without having to have a crate or some other barrier set up in the trunk.
