Point taken. The folks at the dealership aren't strangers to me so I guess that is why I am okay with it. I totally see your point. Plus, I haven't purchased the car yet so there is that little bit of a technicality......

I don't really consider it to be my car yet. Perhaps my enthusiasm is waning. I mean, the car was assembled well over a month ago and it's still sitting there and is going to sit there for quite a while apparently. The next 6-8 weeks are going to be interesting.
I don't consider mine my car yet either. That could change Monday when they finish it, though :p

Is there a factory shutdown for Christmas and New Year holidays? I seem to remember that being factored into the old calculations that Mark was doing.

I know I am looking forward to some time off over the next few weeks. I imagine the folks building our cars could use one too. I hope they get some quality time with their immediate families.
Just to be clear, the time I built into my estimate was a totally uneducated guess. Someone on here has told us the actual length of the holiday shutdown as it seems to have been reduced. I don't recall off hand what the correct answer was.

They usually drive the car before sale to make sure everything is functioning correctly.
And it needs to be driven a little just for transport, between lots and trains and trucks along the way. Although probably just a few hundred yards at each step.

if Ford really wanted to they could avoid having it driven. for what I'm paying, they should!

For whatever reason....I have a totally different take on this concern. I think the Mach E is a great car.....but it's just a car in the end. Up until very recently, there was the possibility that the FE we ordered could be the first one at that dealership. I told several of the employees there that I would be very disappointed in them if they DIDN'T take it out for some joy rides before I showed up. EDIT: It's a stock order so there isn't any concern about it being off limits for test drives.

I think the more people that get to spend time behind the wheel of these things the better for everybody. If I ever do end up with one.....I will let any of my friends, family or coworkers borrow it. I've always been like that though. Well, there is one car that I own that NOBODY else has driven in 35 years but that is because they are all scared to drive it....not because I wouldn't let them.
I was thinking the same way. I was even thinking of offering to my dealer they could take it for a few spins if they wanted when it arrives (I figured they would anyway). I might even tell them if they have someone that really wants to see one before they get a demo in, I'd consider running mine over for a bit. I'm retired and home most days anyway, and I'm only 5 minutes away.

Ford has a whole end of line (EOL) test sytem: The cars pull up on dyno's, are locked into place, they then are run through a specific set of tests (sometimes driven up to highway speeds), all the modules run through a self test.

If the car doesn't pass the EOL it goes off to the repair bay.

Its quite impressive watching the test run: People are standing next to a car running 50-60 mph.

same! Except maybe the truck driver that will unload? ?
At least 3 of them (at the plant to get it on the train, off the train and to a truck, off the truck at the dealer). And likely 1-2 more transfers in between.

Watching the tracking daily to see when it will hit the dealer, don't plan on it sitting there for more than 24 hrs unless there is an issue. ?

OH! That is probably why I don't have a build date yet, I ordered an Infinite Blue and there are too many of them.
