Two thoughts on that:
  • We haven't seen similar articles about Mach-E's being repaired
  • If its fixed before I get it what does it matter?
If this was Tesla, they'd just ship them to the customer and let the customer get it fixed by a service center.

I’ve never ordered a vehicle before so I have no reference point for how long it normally takes after the vehicle is built. I can’t imagine it actually takes 6 weeks to make it from Mexico. So knowing there a few thousand built and a go ahead to ship around 12/17ish, I’m guessing shipping volume is very low (at least for now). Maybe only a few hundred at a time?
To my forum friends - I've NEVER ordered a car before either (and I never will again) and I find the whole process with the Mustang Mach E to be unbelievable and infuriating! I'm used to doing research on a car for weeks (maybe months) but once my decision is made I go to the dealer and buy the car on the spot! Sometimes they have to "dealer trade" to get the color I want (actually it's the color my wife wants :)) I realize the Mustang Mach E is Ford's first entry to use the Mustang badge for a five door crossover SUV electric vehicle and the demand is great PLUS we're in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and this is a real reason to calm down but the deliveries that are being made seem arbitrary and unfair (and the dealers get theirs first too). I'm done with my rant now and I'll shut up! Merry Christmas everybody and a Happy & Healthy New Year! Mike

If you wait until 2022, that will probably work for the Mach E. Biggest problem is Ford hyped the car a year before it was ready....

I'm pretty sure we have all moved ahead of the dealer demo cars. I can see my dealer’s car was built 11-1 and I am getting mine before them.

You may be right in your area but my dealer is getting his demo the second week of January 2021 and those who ordered have no cars to be seen! I have to admit, though, that I can't wait for his call as I've NEVER seen, sat or driven the Mach E.

I looked up my dealers MME myself. They are very informed. If I were you I'd verify the info also.

The other factor is that it's a brand new model. If someone special ordered an existing model like an Explorer or F-150, it wouldn't take this long or be this unpredictable. But Ford was literally still testing the vehicle, writing software, and finishing development when we placed our reservations, and then our orders. So the completion time was still quite open-ended.

It's also the first time they've done a manufacturer reservation rather than just every part of the process going through a dealer.

That's not so much an excuse (I agree they dropped the ball on some parts and should have designed the process better) as it is an explanation. Combined with COVID really cutting into many resources along the way.

If Ford contacted me and said there was a mistake and I couldn’t get the car until 2022, I would tell them to take a flying leap. I’d then immediately place an order for the Jaguar I-Pace. Thankfully that won’t have to happen.

All good points and I agree with you and said as much (not in so many words). It still is extremely frustrating! As I said, I’ll stop my rant now and go back to bed.

I know I should do that. But I’m a Ford man (as was my father in the steel management industry) so that’s not an option. Besides jumping ship to buy “foreign” badges, I’ve always bought Ford products with the exception of a few GM’s (which I found weren’t the greatest - even the Cadillac), and one Chrysler which was a huge mistake! I’m almost 72 and stuck in my ways so an electric car from Ford (a Mustang Mach E to boot) fits the bill to a “T”. I’ll wait but I’m not happy about it and will never do it again!

My Dealer is scheduled to receive theirs before me per the VIN tracking unless my vehicle is randomly coming on a different rail/truck than the Kansas city track. My build date was 12/8 and no shipping update yet. Ford is just screwing this up at this point, Covid or no Covid, they're screwing up.
