Several times a week I will pick up a couple of grandchildren at an elementary school. At this school, while still in a line of vehicles, you are approached at the driver's window of who you are picking up. It is then radio'd in. As you approach the actual pickup spot, the children are queued based on the earlier alert.

Your children are escorted to the right rear door of the vehicle by alternating teachers/staff. I am well trained to have both passenger side windows down because the escort has never seen a Mach-E.

"How do I open the door?"

I reply "just push the round button"

The most common comment after the door responds is:

1. Oh that is so cool
2. I love your car
3. Wow. What kind of car is this

But here on the forum? The very folks that decided to purchase the car?
None of those responses seem to reflect their sentiment.

I personally love the design. It's not perfect, I admit. But very much a Mach-E attribute.

I know you are lying. The ACTUAL most common comment after pressing the button is:

"Nothing happened."

Followed by the driver saying:

"Press it again."

I'm not saying that I haven't ever had to push the button twice, but not very often.

And for the school pick up, I always push the unlock button just before the teacher reaches the door. So not even once has it ever required a second attempt.

I read a recent news article about Tesla that caught fire after an accident. The doors couldn't be opened because they required the battery to work, and people died. Will a Mach-e door open without the battery? From what I read the Tesla doors have a separate latch which is difficult to find.
Read somewhere that they store a little power in the doors for a few days after the 12 V battery goes to open a few times.

Four people passed away recently in Tesla Model Y battery fire. A few bystanders broke a window with crowbar and rescued one person.

You can buy small glass breaking and seat belt cutting devices. Not a bad idea to keep one in your car and let family know you have it.

When I do pickup, the kids race to the car to see who gets to press the button. Staff never get a chance.

No you don’t. You can get in the car with a dead battery. The door modules have backup power. You can open the doors 5-6 times before that power is depleted. I open my doors all the time when I have the 12V battery disconnected for one reason or another.
My doors died and wouldn’t open when my 12V did, which happened while charging no less.

That is unusual. Like a said I have the 12v LVB disconnected for hours when I’m working on the audio system (upgrading) or other electrical work. The doors open but you have to hold the button for a couple of seconds. It’s slow. There is a small capacitor in the door modules that’s stores a little energy.

The article is BS as is the one saying the manual release is hard to find on Teslas. While I drive a GT I have to call BS when I see something that is clearly incorrect.

Teslas manual door release.

Now look up where the back door one is.

And the occupants were unconscious so people were trying to open the door from the outside. How’s that going to work?

A friend was in a front end collision with his MME and cannot access the jumper cables Or the 12v battery since they were wrecked. He cannot get into the car to retrieve his personal belongings. They are considering breaking a window. Any suggestions?

I’d think a locksmith with an airbag wedge could get in and mechanically actuate the front door.

Call a locksmith before you break the window.

if the collision was THAT bad, just break the damn window. They are going to total the car anyway more than likely..

The car was totaled and is sitting in an impound lot now. The locksmith idea was trie but the doo still wouldn’t unlock. Broken window it may be. The only reason I care is I loaned my friend my tesla adapter and its in the car.
