I was doing Linux long before it was Linux.
I started doing sysadmin work in 1985, I have supported a number of different operating systems over the years. I did not do much Unix until 1996, when started doing SunOS and Solaris, then Linux starting in 2011. Sysadmin is one of the hats I wear these days, but not the primary one.

I cut my user teeth on a bastardized version 7 Unix running on a PDP 11/70 in 1984. A year later, that same machine got upgraded to 2.9 BSD. I also had access to 4.2 and 4.3 BSD running on Vax 11/780 and 11/750 machines.

Eventually I got a job doing sysadmin work on SCO Xenix (and later Unix) machines running on Intel in the late 80s before getting a job administrating Sun IPC and IPX boxes running SunOS, and eventually Solaris 2.4. Part of that job was working for a company developing an UltraSparc clone. Eventually ended up at Sun/Oracle administrating big iron and clusters in a lab setting. Lots of exposure to various flavors of Linux and Solaris. These days I do desktop Mac, Windows, and Linux (Ubuntu mostly) support. Been a long strange journey as root...

Residue from long-ago naval service.
On P-3s ("legacy" USN maritime patrol aircraft), "condition 5" was set for take-off/landing. "Set 5" also became a synonym for "sit down, be quiet"....

Cool, you worked on some early Unix alright. In those days my sysadmin work was with desktop systems running DOS and Windows. Windows NT and the start of windows server is where I went to Unix systems, that has been mostly with servers in data center environments. I have been supporting Storage and Backup systems for quite a while now, servers and arrays, always lots going on. I enjoyed working on Solaris systems the most I think, but distributed smaller servers running Linux seems to be more cost efficient. I can work from home, so that makes life easier.
When I saw DEV in your name, I assumed it was related to dev as in devices, but apparently not.
Back in the day, /dev/root referred to the harddrive that that the Unix OS lived on. None of this /dev/sda or /dev/hda or /dev/disk0 stuff or /dev/nvme0 stuff. Been interesting to see how things have evolved over the years.

Yeah, I'm definitely no hardware developer. Or software developer. So I don't write device drivers. But I've been at various hardware companies and watched the bring-up process for a variety of different things including streaming video players, workstations, smart light bulbs, small/medium/large servers & clusters. Ended up doing a lot of low-level firmware upgrades as the hardware went from pre-alpha status to FCS.

It's been a great career for the last 35 years. Just kinda fell into it. Not bad for someone with a bachelor of arts degree in Theater Arts.

I logged into the Ford ordering website on October 1, 2021 (the opening day to order the 2022 Mach-E) to order my GT. The website locked up whenever I tried to finalize my order so I called my local dealer to place the order. The dealer assigned #1001 as my order number.

Those of you on the forum who also placed early 2022 orders and then tracked your builds & deliveries will remember the chip shortages that sent many early 2022 Mach-E's to dusty fields around the Mexico City plant while waiting for a chip or two. However, my GT was assembled the first week of production and shipped without delay, and I was driving it on February 7th in Richmond VA. I'm sorry that many others waited 2+ extra months for their cars.

Saw a vapor blue in the wild for the first time on Saturday. It still had the temporary paper plates on it. Nice color.

I like James Bond, 007, and I like Mass Effect, N7, which is a military designation in the video game series.

007 + N7 = OON7

I had to use O's since many sites do not allow numbers at the beginning of usernames.
