My username pays homage to my idol, one of the greatest inventors and custom car creators of all time, best known for his flying amphibious car from the classic film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."
Unfortunately I did not know the proper spelling when I first started using the handle back in the 90's.

I used to be an avid computer gamer and was blown away by a game called Deus Ex. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deus_Ex_(video_game)

Since then I've used that whenever I can, but it seems to be a popular name to take. I was honestly surprised this name was available when I joined the forum since I was late to the Mach-E game.

I never knew what that meant till I took Latin back in high school. It means "god of" and is typically seen as "deus ex machina," a god from a machine.
And all this time, I thought you just enjoyed Ibuprofen!!!

I was an on-air personality (read 'DJ') at a popular alternative rock radio station for most of the 90's. In 1992, when the band, Ministry, released the Psalm 69 album, I was the air-personality that was hosting an advanced listening party of that album for our listeners (which happened to be held at a goth/industrial nightclub that I owned at the time), and one of our interns wrote up a promo blurb to be read on the air in the week leading up to the event.

The intern decided to play on the whole religion theme in the promo (ministry, psalms...), where they had said something like "we're sending our own 'reverend', Pete, to host the festivities..." and so all the other jocks started calling me "Reverend Pete".

After about 4 months of trying to get rid of the nickname, it just stuck and became my on-air personality. And it still follows me today, 33 years later... So I just decided to embrace it, and I use it (or variations of it) for almost all of my online profiles for forums, gaming, etc.
“Reverend Pete” has my vote as best backstory so far. I like this thread.

Well, when I bought it I wondered what to name it?. First, it is a Mustang so it is a Pony. It is painted Black. My name is Black. I was a Navy pilot and when I was in Vietnam my squadron was the “Black Ponys.” So, what to name it???? I got it it! It wasn’t a very hard choice

OkumaNate: Okuma, or 大熊, means Big Bear in Japanese, and my given name is Nate. I spent several years in Japan and part of my time was spent with a host family. During my time with the host family, I hiked a lot of mountains and I’m a big guy. The host family started calling me Big Bear and it stuck. I’ve been known by this name in Japan, including agencies and companies I’ve worked with for almost 15 years!

Interested to hear why you all chose your usernames.

Mine’s Teslaeata.

When I started my apprenticeship as a car & truck mechanic back in September 1977 there was a man working in the bodyshop, Mick Cronin, who had a big Moto Guzzi motorbike he’d often couple to a sidecar.

Jota was one of the fastest bikes of the time and he had written on the back of his Moto Guzzi “Jotaeata” which always stuck with me as I found it amusing.

So my unseenane is just an amusing (I think) variation on that theme.
Thanks for doing this, been great to hear the backstories
