No, the real problem is why anyone would willingly live in a place that is minus anything. Pack up and start driving south till you find a suitable place to live..
Dumb response! We have families and have responsibilities, you can’t just up and leave!

In that kind of cold it won’t matter. It will still drain that battery just to maintain.

heat pump won’t help you in -10 degrees. From my understanding it doesn’t function that well in that kind of cold.
Wrong it does help, not as much but still helps. You can drive 200 miles on a model y before it fully dies in these temps.

Yes but his question is about anxiety over range not range. ? More accurately and perhaps more seriously, the issue is the range estimation, not necessarily the range. His assumption is that these are equal, which we know is not necessarily the case.
excellent point

My feeling is that we're being too hard on Ford with their GOM. Eventually, we'll get used to it. I'd rather not get hypnotized by Elon's EPA biased GOM. Ford is just trying to be cautious so that they can't be blamed for running out of juice earlier than warned. This is similar to many ICE cars which have at least 30-45 miles after the fuel light comes on:

It's funny how for years Tesla's didn't have heat pumps and when cheaper cars had them, Tesla fans were certain they were a gimmick. Of the first million cars sold by Tesla (through march of last year), only a handful were model Y's with heat pumps - and yet all of those cars were lauded for their efficiency and advanced technology.

Fortunately we don't usually have more than 2-3 weeks per year of this type of cold (at least in SE Michigan).
Unrelated topic ... love your license plate. I actually considered getting that one (it was still available .. but clearly not now) at the time. I also thought about '88 KWH' (also available).

In the end I went for 'EV PONY' (someone already had 'E PONY' - that was my first choice).

Also the MME has dual coolant loops that effectively perform the same function but fanboys gonna fanboy.

Personally I'm excited for my roof to stay on.

If the Y has better range at -10F (not clear from going off a couple of GOM range estimates) I would wager it has more to do with it being more aerodynamic than the heat pump. Not a ton of heat to pull from the atmosphere at those temps.

It shouldn't be overlooked that while EVs have range anxiety in the cold ICEs have "will it start?" anxiety.

what mi/kwh were you getting?
The Trip 1 reading was 1.8 mi/kwh, BUT that included a lot of time sitting in it pushing buttons. What is the best way to track that going forward, reset the trip odometers every time?

I believe it resets every time you get in the car. You can reset your history though which is mentioned in a few places.

You don't have to do that; just looking at the mi/kwh during the trip is good enough; just multiply by 88kwh to get the true range on the trip
You’re asking a lot Tim. Some of us have a hard time multiplying by 5. ;)

The biggest question is it delivering what it is promised even in adversaries. This is a brand new EV AND new buyers are trying to be cautious . There will be many creases that will eventually need to be ironed out. It atleast should match up with model 3 or Y if not better to be a successful EV.
