I’m coming up on 10k miles in my MME Premium and I keep getting RECOMMENDED service for 10k miles. Is this necessary? What are they gonna do? No oil to change etc.
Thanks

10K service is basically a tire rotation and a visual inspection of everything else (including fluids). At 20K you'd want to consider replacing the cabin filter. In the overall scheme of maintenance, it's important, but not really anything you couldn't do at home if you have the tools. Check the maintenance manual for specifics (like this simplified one for the 2024 model year):
https://www.vdm.ford.com/content/da...-2/2024_MustangMach-E_MaintenanceSchedule.pdf

You could take it to a dealer to do (make sure you ask for the actual recommended 10K service items instead of just asking for a tire rotation) but highly recommend calling around first to confirm what that might cost. Some dealers, as expected, will 100% (or 300%, 400%) rip you off for this. A tire rotation and any associated inspections should be like.... $30? Definitely <$50. Anything more than that and you need to avoid.

If you do choose to DIY, I'd recommend to log it in your car's service record online in your Ford account (or in the Ford app). Just for tracking/warranty purposes down the road. On the website it's at: https://www.ford.com/support/service-history/

My car is now 4 and a half years old... when it hit 10K and 20K I did take it in for these checks. However, my advice to others is to spend a few minutes looking it over critically your self.

  • Are there any leaks anywhere?
  • Any mechanical problems?
  • Are there any open recalls?

If no to these, I'd not bring it in. There is nothing of substance that the dealer does.

Yeah… I am more worried about them creating problems then resolving them

Maker recommends it then it’s necessary and that is a matter of fact.

What other say which is that it’s just this or only that and you could do it yourself is puff, stuff & nonsense and a matter of unqualified opinion, beware of such people’s advice I would warn.

You also get a professional but more importantly qualified eye looking over the whole car the amateur or smart-arse amateur with a false sense of competency is not qualified to do fully & properly.

You paid a lot for such a good car, the proper servicing costs so little so why wouldn’t you pay to have it maintained properly.

You’ll be the first to complain when lack of servicing affects a warranty claim or contribution to something not covered under warranty anyway which occurs before or end of warranty.

…….is my view🤷🏼‍♂️

70,000 miles. I’ve never taken my car in for a “check.”

Granted, the car has been to the dealer maybe 10 times for various recall updates or warranty work.

I dunno, I just drive the car. There’s no engine. I replaced the tires (once so far) when they’re worn down. I’ve replaced the 12v battery once.

No to all except the recall but there’s no fix for it yet so no reason to bring it in.
Thank you for the advice.

The maintenance schedule can also be seen with the ford app. Click on the wrench then click maintenance schedule. My 10k cost about 40 bucks and the 20k I did early because original warranty was about to expire. That cost about 70 bucks including cabin filter.

My dealer didn’t gouge me. They said they would just charge me for the tire rotation and do the other stuff for free. It gave me peace of mind as someone new to this stuff.

And I wanted the tire rotation because our high torque vehicle is hard on tires (if you have fun in it).

The recall s/w has been available at the dealer for a couple months at least. And it is now also starting to be delivered via an OTA update (for those that haven’t gotten it done at a dealership).

The dealer i bought car has $180 diagnostic fee. Even to diagnose warranty claims. They didnt charge me, and even if I paid have little faith in their competence. Got car back with more issues than I brought in originally.

Rotate tires and do a thorough inspection. Cabin air filter, according to manufacturer, isn’t due until 20k. I bought the plan, so didn’t cost anything.

Is the UK that different?
I mean you sound pretty convincing and I probably would head your advice if it was like that over here. But in my near 70 years on the planet I don't think I've witnessed a legitimate warranty claim being denied because I didn't bring the car in for a tire rotation and a look over.
