Having Netflix, YouTube and games available on the center screen is a pretty big deal. Owners are going to want a way to pass the time when they're at a charger for 45 minutes. Hopefully some good apps are announced with release of the vehicle.
I've never used any of those features when charging in my Tesla. Sort of a non issue for most people. I have an Ipad and phone I can watch videos on, don't need the car to be able to do it.

That's nice. However, your personal charging plans are not applicable for the great many owners who are going to actually use the vehicle's full range and DC fast charging charging capabilities.

For those of us who are going to take their MMEs beyond 250-300 miles and anticipate charging sessions of more than 20 minutes, it's sort of a nice thing to have.

Additionally, from a market-competitive standpoint, it would greatly behoove Ford to have entertainment options on that beautiful center screen. At a minimum, it takes away a selling point from Tesla.

one way for ford to distinguish themselves and put them ahead of tesla is to offer full implementation of apple carplay and android auto and/or make partnerships with netfix, disneyplus, etc

it would be great to take advantage of the large screens for apps and navigation- and it would be nice to be able to use our existing cell phones’ plans or wifi for the streaming and not have to pay another streaming fee. if people want a separate internet plan for their car, that can always be offered as an option too

Me too, but... netflix refuses to play back in portrait mode (always rotated 90 degrees if I try, although I can pick the shows in portrait) on my phone and I never seen any images of the mach e with the screen with a landscape orientation, so I assume it's a fixed orientation...
And even then, if it could play in the right orientation, it won’t be able to take full advantage of the whole screen. It would be really innovative if the screen could physically rotate. Surprise us, Ford!

When I first saw the Mach-e dash with that big screen, I wondered if they had it mounted on a pivot. Not for watching Netflix or anything, of course, but simply for a better viewing angle for the driver if there's no one in the passenger seat.

Since it's a crucial component for the driver, they couldn't allow it to rotate away from the driver, but it might be nice if they allowed maybe 10-15 degrees of rotation toward the driver.

Remember Tesla added that feature with a software update, so even MME will not support it from beginning, it always can be added on a later time.
I hope Ford will come with a kind of an app store that will allow software to be executed in park or when driving, also Android Auto itself will adapt for EV needs.

Some of the extras is what makes tesla so talked about. Ford needs to offer innovated ideas and uses for the tech in the car. Even though a lot of the stuff tesla offers, few people use, it is what gets people talking about it and gets younger drivers interested in buying one. Netflix is a must for this reason. Even some party tricks like smart summons helps make it seem like cutting edge tech, even when it isn’t useful yet.
Don’t disappoint me Ford.

Apple CarPlay is the same. Technically they 'can' but I believe it is restricted due to safety concerns. But I hope they allow it when car is not moving. Seems like a fair compromise.

Looney Tunes. As long as I can get the classic Looney Tunes while sitting at a charger in South Point, I'm happy. ;)

What they need is an app store, allow 3 party to write apps for it. That actually is a big downside with Tesla, you are limited to what tesla offers. I for example dont use Spotify to hear music, i use YouTube music. but most likely having your own app store is not that interesting for big 3 party companies, the target group simply is to small (atm only mach e drivers). So what we really need is a good integration of android auto/apple car play. what is a good start that android auto works wireless what is a must. take as example the new Kia Niro, it has a bigger screen, but android auto only can use 2/3 of that screen, 1/3 of the screen is black and "android auto" is written on it. what a bs.

They sort of do have an app store. You install apps on your phone as normal. If compatible with SYNC AppLink, then the app shows up on the car display, connected to the car via Bluetooth (I think? or maybe it's USB?). Nothing huge... Here on one page, you can see the full (small) selection on the existing SYNC 3 systems:

https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/applink-catalog.html

And I agree with what you said... I think the selection is small because not many companies can be convinced that the effort will be worthwhile.

In this demo screen from a London event, they're showing an AccuWeather icon. I think that AccuWeather only shows up here if: AccuWeather's installed on your phone AND you've enabled AppLink inside the AccuWeather app AND your phone's connected to the car.

As for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto -- both are supported, including both wired and wireless support for each. Neither will be able to use the entire screen. There are items such as climate controls that will always be displayed. I think that because of the tall portrait configuration, they'll probably choose to keep quite a bit of the native Ford content on the display.

Here's a cropped view of CarPlay:

In one of the early demos they showed an app screen that was filled with icons (I'm sure it was all dummyied up).

Isn't copying Tesla not kind of the point: To be better than someone you have to innovate and come up with new/better ideas, not merely copy them.

Ah yeah here it is: AccuWeather, Pandora, etc.
