My current car is a 2016 Escape Titanium And it has been my favorite car ever. 145,000 miles on it as I drive 90 M-F for work. Great car, versatile, perfect size. I am hoping I end up loving the MME as much.
Yes I also have a long commute of just shy of 100 miles per day. Thank you for your comment! I’m very excited about the Escape! I can’t wait to see what this Mach E delivers!!!!

We've had 4 Escapes... two 2001's (first year), and now two 2013 Titaniums (first year of the new CUV design at the time). Loved them all. Great vehicles, perfect size. And the most problem-free vehicles we've ever owned.

I think this thread is perfect to talk to you about cancelling my ........ Kia Niro EV SX Touring ( I think it is a Canadian trim only ). Yes I had ordered this vehicule in August 2019 cause it was at the time my best choice possible right after the Tesla Model 3.
But ........... came the Mach-E and it change everything. So I made a reservation on the MME in January, and I was holding on my order of the Niro EV, thinking I would make my final decision after the presentation of both provincial and federal budget, the MME doesn't have acces for now to the federal incentive of $5,000 ( Let's hope it will ). So because of the pandemic we don't have a federal budget yet.
But two weeks ago I got a call from my Kia dealer saying my Niro EV was on it's way, so I had to make the decision. Finally after rethinking the whole thing I decided to keep the MME Premium AWD reservation , even if I had to make the sacrifice of 50 km/31 mi of range, cancel my Niro EV order and get my $500 deposit back. I have chosen the MME for two principal reasons, the AWD and the OTA updates.
So I am good for another 8 to 10 months of waiting, but I think it is worthed. Ford I'm all in with the MME please give us the car we are expecting and more.

The Niro EV was probably my top choice of BEV before the Mach-e came along too. Not that I was really needed a new car anytime soon, but if I had to buy one from the existing options already out, it probably would have been the Niro.

But when the Mach-e was announced, it jumped immediately to the top of the list. (Followed by the XC40 Recharge.) Kind of unfair to compare the Niro to those two as they're both far more expensive, higher-grade vehicles. But still. The Niro looks pretty nifty.

I see the logic in your decision. When I had an TS in 2015-2018, I had great service from Tesla's Service Centers. I can only imagine how the increased volumes (4 - 10 times more than I had) have made it awful to get service...with no other options available.

With the ME (or the new Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV), you have access to not only your Ford Dealer, but also other dealers as well if you are unhappy with their responsiveness. At least during the warranty period, they are being paid to help by Ford. They like that!

I passed up a TY in late March because of worries about service and because the TY and ALL Tesla models lack features that I either love or rely on...like Apple Play, BLIS, etc.

Good decision.

To be fair, I think your service can vary DRASTICALLY from one service center to the next. I use the Kansas City Service Center and they have been extremely responsive on everything so far. Never took more than a few business hours for them to reply to any of the issues I have had. They have been extremely accommodating in all of my requests. I'm sure in the more Tesla heavy areas, it's probably a different story. I'd also argue that it's not much different in that aspect than any other dealership/service location. You are going to have good ones, and bad ones. I've had bad luck with a couple Dodge and Ford dealerships in my area. The biggest difference is you normally have a handful of other dealers/service locations you can use if one of them sucks in your area with the big car companies. With Tesla, you are lucky to have 1.

So yea, service with Tesla is definitely a concern. I wouldn't go so far to blanket statement that everywhere is going to experience crap service like OP though. It's just you have to do a little more research to see how others in your area have been treated by the Service Center and/or mobile service in your area. You don't have to do that with Ford/GM/Dodge etc because you can roll the dice that one of the many ones in your area will take care of you because they want to get you as a customer for your next car/service.

I agree with you Stickboy. Every person will have vastly different experience, but universally speaking no one will have a good service center experience if Tesla continues down the path of uber credits (limited rentals or no rentals) and no direct line to a service center tech. Also, no state inspections and no same day/next day service in most cases. Tesla has the highest shop rate out of any automotive shop I've seen ($160/hr in my state). If you live 10 minutes from a service center, you're not going to experience any heartache or very little. I lived 2 hours away from mine. $160/hr is ridiculous given the incompetence level I've experienced out of my local Tesla service.

I think the fasad of owning a Tesla means less maintenance, will strike a lot of people wrong when they realize their car will ultimately run into issues. Far more issues with the Model 3 than any ICE vehicle I have owned.

My Model 3, a 2018 build, was certainly a beta car on wheels. Autopilot not up to the hype (too many phantom breaking and lane keep assist issues on back roads), auto headlights and windshield wipers are terrible, ride is loud, no BLIS, etc etc. The car is just not worth the price tag given the shortfalls.

Anyway, my raptor features are far superior to the Tesla features (BLIS, Auto wipers, auto headlights, lane keep, infotainment with Apple carplay, in car wifi hotspot). It is so blatantly obvious once I got back to a legacy automaker how far behind Tesla is when it comes to building feature complete technologies in their car. It really is a beta car and if you're happy with sub-par features for the premium price then it fits for ya.

Thank you, and you are correct. Apple carplay is really nice and a feature I use every day.

You are obviously jaded and probably rightfully so in your experience. I live 2.5 hours from a service center. They still give loaners at the KC location if mobile service can't handle it. I've also had no problem getting ahold of anyone at that location. So it's definitely YMMV.

As far as the rest of the post. I'm just gonna disagree that they are far behind. They both have things that are better and worse than the other. The raptor just happens to have the things that are important to you. I've also seen that autopilot and such are location dependent. I've yet to experience phantom braking in my area. I know others say it's a big deal in their areas. How impressed you are with Autopilot is likely to vary area by area and how roads are setup/marked/etc. It's worked 99% of the time for me in mixed city/rural driving. I prefer the Tesla infotainment to anything that Ford has offered up to this point and prefer it to car play/Android auto. I've had both and didn't use it.

Also I'm not sure a comparison between any Tesla out right now and a raptor makes much sense. They are like polar opposites in their categories and goals. You are paying a price for completely different feature set. The driver assist stuff is a small portion of what makes each of them so expensive.

To counter your last statement. If you are happy with a vehicle that has average performance but guzzles gas and happens to haul stuff at a premium price then the Raptor is for you

Actually, comparing service experience, infotainment systems, and quality makes perfect sense. Is it possible that your passion for your model 3 is affecting your opinion as well, preventing you from seeing any negatives?

Ehh, I have two other friends I know who likewise discarded their Tesla back to Legacy for the very same reasons. Both bought model S/X and experience exactly what I have. The car just isn't up to spec like Legacy vehicles in my experience. Doesn't mean I'm right or wrong, just my experience. I won't go back for those reasons, and will certainly be purchasing a Mach E in the future as I was hoping to hold off until then.

EDIT: Just realized you weren't the person that I was originally responding to lol. My bad. Tried to adjust the message to just focus on what you quoted.

I'm just saying we all have our own things that matter.

And no it doesn't make perfect sense. Not when you also included the pricing comparison. You can absolutely compare individual features but when you start making pricing judgements you have to look at the whole package.

But yes, I'm perfectly aware that BLIS and Auto Wipers are not good on the Tesla. Not deal breakers TO ME but they aren't as good. Quality is way more hit and miss with Tesla. I didn't have issues but I'm not going to act like others haven't. It's also dumb to act like Ford or others don't have problems. I had to replace the Turbo 3 times (granted all under warranty) on my previous SHO.

Infotainment is subjective and personal preference. It's the best built in overall in car system in my opinion. When you compare to Car Play is where it really comes down to preference. I had it before.. didn't use it.

Autopilot to me is light years better than lane keeping assist. I haven't had the issues you did though.

All depends on what you value is what it comes down to. The performance and driveability/driving experience is unmatched in it's price bracket IMO. ( Model 3 at least). The rest of the give and take is noise to me. Tesla does some things better and some worse on the rest.
