just bought my new Mach-e and dealer is offering up a prepaid service plan but since there’s not much « real » servicing to do (if you read the list it’s mostly inspections and tire rotation) any thoughts on whether it’s worth it? Are brake jobs super expensive on these ponies?
thanks

I purchased the Premium Care and I think it is worth it. My main reasoning is that the Mach-E is a new product and with any new highly complex technical device or software there are bound to bugs.

However, on the Ford Care site, there is no stipulation about battery coverage. It has not been updated, but I have the dealer and Ford Customer Representative recorded with guarantees that the battery falls under the extended maintenance plan/warranty.

Sounds like you're talking about a maintenance plan. It depends on the price, but since there's almost no maintenance required on the MME, it's very likely that it's not worth it. Brakes will last a long time since regenerative braking will do most of the slowing of the car.

I think his dealer is offering a service maintenance plan and not a Ford Care extended warranty. At my signing the first two years was already covered by my dealer for maintenance, however later on I was provided at no cost from Ford the extended plan due to the issues I experienced. The extended plan covers everything beyond the 3/36K included warranty. Not sure I would have bought it on my own. I think there are a few threads on this very topic already.

thanks. That’s my thinking but it’s nice to know what others think too. It’s like 3500$! I can’t see needing that many brake jobs!

My dealership was on the struggle bus reading instructions setting up the Ford Options purchase so had no idea on maintenance, extended warranty undercoating, magic tire air and other add on so I was pleased to walk out with no BS.

To be clear, are you talking about a service plan that covers routine maintenance, or an extended service plan (i.e. extended warranty) that covers breakdowns?

If it's the former, I would pass because there is just so little routine maintenance that needs to be done, and most of it, like replacing the cabin air filter is something you can easily do yourself.

If it's the latter, that will have to be based on your level of risk tolerance and your ability to absorb a large bill if something does break. Some will say extended warranties are a waste of money and statistically they're right. But, what if you're on the wrong side of the statistics? Personally, I've been all over the map. There have been many purchases where I have declined the extended warranty, some where I have purchased it and lost money, and some where I have purchased it and it paid off. With the MME, I did purchase because it is a brand new model and I felt there might be a higher than average chance something goes wrong.

Give me a dollar, I’ll give you .50 cents.

You won’t even consider it, and yer, it’s the better offer.

Yikes! Run from that offer.

Totally with you there. My dealership has no idea about what what they’re trying to sell me covers. The extended warranties and the service plans were designed with non-electric cars in mind.

They’re actually trying to sell me both; I’m kind of with you on the extended warranty since it’s such a new car type but the service plan seems unecessary. Thanks man.

If you are talking about coverage for the HVB, That would not be included in Ford Care. That's because it's already covered for 8 years 100K miles, as are all EV unique components.

And besides in this industry, lots of dealers are selling extended warranties, that you can get, on your own at drastically reduced rates. Check this out-----> FloodFordESP.com

Personally I would not be talked into a service plan for the brakes. My wife's Volt is approaching 100K miles, the rotors look brand new, and there's plenty of meat left on all the pads. Regen braking at least in her car's case has meant very little mechanical wear on the brakes even after all those miles.

I should have looked into these maintenance threads other than the color club threads LOL. I took the bait and did the 3 year service plan. Added 25$ to my monthly. Anyway I really like the car. I hope I keep liking and it will make me want to go to a GT. Then I will know better. My first EV.
