My Ford Dealer sold me $5000 premium maintenance plan, is it Worth it?

A SOBDMC module replacement was $4000 part cost plus a day of labor (warrantied right now). I asked if it falls under the 8 year warranty and was told they don't know. Would be nice to know what is covered by 3, 5, 8 years in the purchase warranty to even start making a decision on extended. For me that is currently unclear. HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY AND eDRIVE SYSTEMS. Is the edrive the transfer case (transmission) housed in the electric motor casing or are the bearings and gears part of the power train? Define eDrive? We were told we have up to 3 years to make a decision to extend it so you can at least make interest on your cash until then.
He was asking about a maintenance plan, not a service plan.

My guess is that the SOBDMC is a powertrain component or part of the high voltage battery. (I can't specifically recall that module's purpose right now.)

Understood reading thru what he purchased. But the two were confused for a bit.

It would be nice to have a better definition of what falls under the scope of the warranty divisions to make a determination of value for extended.

Simple put. No, cancel it if you can. It's not needed at all. chasing coral, generaltso, machizzo,Timbop, and myself. All trusted people here. You don't need it unless you have money to burn. And if you do can you take us on a field trip to Mexico to the plant?
Cancelled it this morning, signed the cancellation form and just need to see the changes get reflected! Thank you!

First, just for clarity, what you bought is a ā€œService Planā€ not an extended warranty. Only the manufacturer can modify the warranty they gave you on your car.

Second,, assuming it has the same rights and responsibilities as the service plans Ford sells for its ICE vehicles, you have the right to flat-cancel the plan, so long as you are still within the original warranty period.

Normally, when you cancel a service plan which has already been included in your purchase contract, however, you get a cash refund from Ford Credit. Your contract is not revised. This means that you are essentially borrowing the money at whatever interest rate is on the contract. Of course, If your purchase was a cash deal, then you are simply getting the $5000 returned.

Selling you a written promise to cover the cost of certain repairs and services you my incur down the road (more like an insurance policy than a warranty) doesnā€™t make the dealer a crook. Nor does quoting you a payment with the service plan included.

Having said that, I canā€™t imagine what services or repairs the MME will require after the initial warranty period that would justify a $5000 cost.

I got the same sales pitch from the finance manager for the $5000 service plan at the time I bought mine, and it seemed to be based on raising the fear of battery and/or technology failure that may occur in the future. Hard to guess how much repairing or replacing batteries, etc will cost six years from now.

In that my wife and I are at an age where we donā€™t even buy green bananas, insuring this car against electrical problems that may occur six years from now made little sense to us.
I purchased both (and cancelled both it this morning) the Premium Maintenance Plan ($5000) and the Extended Warranty from Triton ($5,300). A total of $10,300. Both have been cancelled now, than you!

Glad to hear it was not an issue to cancel, 10K is no chump change. Like others said, the Ford ESP would be the only way to go. You can purchase it online for very little if you feel the need to have some extra protection. Like others have said it's really just buying insurance etc.

Glad to have you as a family member, enjoy your MME.

A maintenance plan makes even less sense to me than a service plan for the MME. What maintenance would there be?

My Dealer added on a maintenance plan. It was a maintenance plan that only covered 2 visits. Basically the 10,000 maintenance and the 20,000 maintenance. The cost was $210. The dealer also gave me a $210 discount on the price making it free.
