And now itā€™s time for the reviews of the reviews! Just to answer a couple questions - this event was intended as a ā€œfirst driveā€ opportunity. Which essentially is an appetizer for further in-depth testing at a later date. Itā€™s a great opportunity to share vehicle information at a high level with an audience who isnā€™t looking for things that are overly technical.

As soon as these cars are available in local media fleets and opened up for longer-term loans, then weā€™ll see the real testing happen! I canā€™t speak for other outlets, but I know we will be putting the car through its paces with charging tests, capacity tests, range tests, thermal management tests, accelerating tests etc.

More like Christmas morning and you find out you got a pair of socks.

They made us wait months for this? A few more ā€œofficial reviewers,ā€ but zero ā€œofficial reviews.ā€

Where are the track tests? Drag strip, real road course. Skidpad numbers? Braking distance? Head to head drag races? Anything?

This is just a long list of fluff pieces of people telling us it feels pretty quick, handles pretty well, looks pretty good and is pretty comfortable.

Tell us something we donā€™t know. No really! We want to know the stuff we donā€™t already know!

I did at least find this nugget from Motorauthority ā€œUnlike other performance cars, the suspension isnā€™t adaptable on its own but tied directly to the Performance Editionā€™s drive modes: Whisper, Engage, and Unbridled. Unfortunately, drivers who want to set the suspension into a different mode by itself will be disappointed, though Ford said such capability could be added at a later date via an OTA update.ā€
Relax. ? The ā€œrealā€ instrumented tests ala Car and Driver, Motor Trend et al donā€™t usually hit until weeks after the ā€œfirst drivesā€. Theyā€™ll give driving impressions, 0-60s and other estimates initially but you have to wait for them to take the cars to their usual test facility and then compile all of the data etc. Then, they either post an update to the original article, or, publish a longer more thorough article with ALL of the numbers. I want to see the Edmunds test track video because itā€™s pretty comprehensive. And they have a Y Perf., C8, and GT500 in their stable that the GT will drag/roll against. Gonna get ugly.

Thatā€™s why the first drives donā€™t really matter that much to me in this case, because its mainly info that forum members have already covered. I mean, itā€™s fun to watch the videos and all, but, the big ? ainā€™t getting covered until full instrumented testing occurs and then the testing outlets start saying WTF is up with the trap speeds? ?

If a thumbnail's job is to make me want to click on a video to learn more, this is the opposite of that. I have no idea who this guy is, but I have no desire to find out more about him.
Agree 100% And, unfortunately, Edmunds is one of the best sources of actual instrumented testing avail on YouTube. But that guy isnā€™t Carlos Lago or Alistair Smith or Mark Takahashi. And those gd posesā€¦ wt actual f is that stuff?

Endgadget says "Whatā€™s more, Ford is offering two years of complimentary use of its Blue Oval Charge Network.". Dont recollect seeing that elsewhere
I might be wrong but I think this means the plug and charge capability being complimentary for 2 years, not the cost of charging being comped.

So any insight as to when Ford will allow reviewers to actually test it like that? This all seems insanely odd for a car that's now been in the hands of owners for over a month. A month after deliveries, we get fluff pieces which all just regurgitate product information we all have been obsessing over for a year or more and now we have to wait yet again for the real actual testing that car people actually care about. It's as if they don't want something getting out

I wish I could be more patient.

But for myself, and many others, the ā€œclock is ticking.ā€

My GTPE will arrive at the dealership in 3 weeks. Decision time.

I know this isnā€™t your decision, nor is it your fault.

But seriously Fordā€¦ā€¦ WTF was the point of the embargo?

They already made everyone wait until a ā€œlater date,ā€ and now the ā€œbig revealā€ that we all waited for is a big pile of nothing topped with marshmallow fluff.

Yes, it is nice to have some professional first drive reviews and impressions, but it makes zero sense what the point of waiting for these was.

Sounds to me like Ford is trying very hard to ā€œcontrol the narrative.ā€ Thatā€™s something companies do when doing damage control or trying to hide something. Not a good look.

They've been delivering these things for six weeks and Ford has a dozen+ of them available for puff pieces but no one has been able to get their hands on one (even a customer car?) for real testing?

It's almost like Ford is ashamed of these things.

103/104 trap speed. Interesting. Better than every consumer-purchased GTPE that I've seen, but only matches the Premium trap speeds.

had one at the track this past week 12.4s @101... trap speeds are off. I really hope they plan to fix it

They typically do the embargo so that all outlets have a chance to get their video ready and can release them all at once so you don't get people rushing to get their video out first. This helps keep from outlets putting out incorrect information due to rushing and not verifying the info. Also, sometimes they can't get everyone in a car in one event. So you might have a few groups of people testing the car over a couple events. It just evens the playing field for reviewers.

Ok Iā€™ve only read the first two so far. Can GTPE owners chime in? Autoblog mentioned the ride being harsh over bumps, opinions?

Side note, it seems ARSTechnica thinks the Performance Edition is the trim to get but Autoblog says itā€™s not worth the money. Interesting takes
In whisper the GTPE rides fine not harsh even in unbridled I find it acceptable, I have to drive over freeways that are beaten up concrete rubble and surface streets that are manhole central that in the comparison the Focus RS that the GTPE replace would try and shake my fillings out.

I know this horse has been beaten to death, but if your in the same camp as me of opting for the GTPE because it is the only trim to offer magneride I don't think you will be disappointed, if you are getting the performance edition expecting 'performance' then depending on those expectations you may be very disappointed.

The non sugar coated answer is that if you have certain performance expectation You Must make sure that your test drive covers these don't get fooled buy the feeling of a 0-60 time. As a ford performance vehicle it has a long way to go, it is more GT-Line than GT.

Ok, this is a new one for me on the MME. In Laurenā€™s Car Coach review, she stated that the regen braking adds power back to the battery from heat generated by the brake pads. I think she is referring to an ICE system, not EV. Motor-Generator; left hand-right hand; blah blah.
