My car won't even let me turn automatic updates on any1 know why

Cause you're likely stuck in the middle of one of those updates (it locks out the setting when it's working on one). I've been stuck on 1.7.1 first attempt for about 3 weeks now.

I took the car in and they manually did an update not sure if it was 1.7.1 or not

I can't even turn on the 'Automatic Updates' toggle anymore, nor can I add or change the scheduled updates, and it's been like that for months. I don't even know what version I'm on, because as far as I can tell that's not displayed anywhere. I've pretty much given up on any updates until I can get over to the dealer...which completely defeats the purpose of OTA updates.

Sigh. Only 2.5 years left until this Options lease is up...

This update is to bring Pre-June cars up to date. You know, kind of like your GT that was built AFTER June.

When did you buy your car...? There is a high probability you already have some updates. If you don't have these updates, you probably have to have the recall done anyways so you might as well as for all the updates.

Buy a mongoose adapter and FDRS and do your own updates. That is what I did.

Is this available via FDRS yet? Mine is currently at the dealer but there are no "new" available updates in FDRS.

This update is not in FDRS yet. It usually takes a few days after the update starts rolling out to show up for dealers. Sometimes longer.

Just present these updates in some understandable logical format to us. Similar to what Apple or Google does. There is no reason this needs to be so scattered or secretive. And if there are updates available, let them show up when "checking for updates" in your car for god's sake! Who's in charge of OTA at Ford? Geeze...
