I don't believe this article. Why would Ford sell and ship a clearly unfinished product with the promise of software updates and the fact that it will get better over time then decide not to give us these software updates. ?? Ford management is either really dumb or this is bad journalism.

I’m not yelling because the car I bought as sold to me functions as expected. I bought with no expectation of an increase in usable battery.
You’re not yelling because YOUR car is functioning as expected. Many of us are yelling because our cars are not functioning as we expected. We expected our cars to have all the functionality of others on this forum. We’re yelling because others can post pictures of the latest downloads, while the last download we have is 1.4.1. The software people who are working on this car are making MANY of us yell.

I suspect bad source. Even Ford Authority doesn't seem to trust her. It makes no sens that they don't improve 2021 considering they avec the same battery and powertrain.

Help Darren Palmer!

I would prefer to hear Darren Parler explain that rather than having a communication employee answering to a website request like he did well in a podcast a few months ago. He's not afraid to talk about unconfirmed information. No sexism here, I just don't trust communications department to answer serious questions. I prefer an engineer to an instababe

If it's true I'm very disappointed. Jaguar and many other increased usable capacity after a year of data collecting. Especially because the Mach-E as a buffer 2-3 times larger than most manufacturers.
Agreed, she lost all technical credibility with me when I saw her photos. She's been a reporter for local TV, ESPN, EXTRA!, ET, and has a minor in fashion design. She probably knows next to nothing technically about EVs, probably just a pretty face to feed information handed to her. There's a good chance she misspoke, I don't think we can confirm anything based on what she's said alone.

Not really fair to trash talk this spokesperson because we don't like the message she is delivering.

It's not like she made this decision. Her role may be to "feed information handed to her", but it's not on her if the information they gave her is wrong, doubly so if they made the decision to give us the update in summer but here we are in December and no one has updated the PR department yet.

I have long believed Ford would use the increase in capacity to sell new model year cars. And as others have said, we purchased the range we purchased, and as long as Ford delivers that, we have no good reason to complain. However, I will complain about this anyway. ;-)

When they increase the capacity of usable battery, I assume there will be a related module update we can perform with FDRS. Or do I misunderstand how FDRS works? Does Ford only make module updates available to specific VINs? I doubt there are any hardware changes between 2021 and 2022, so it should just be module software, right?

I was thinking that. If it comes down to it, especially out of warranty, we might take it upon ourselves to figure out how to install the module that unlocks the extra capacity.

@Ford Motor Company, can you shed some light on this, or otherwise put these rumors to rest?
Are us 2021 Mach-E owners left behind, or are we going to get the unlocked additional battery capacity, like the '22s?

Wow ya'll some grumpy/sexist folks.

PR role is to talk to press. They communicate the information given to them.
Would you prefer an Engineer or Technical person made the comment instead of PR? Yes.

Her being an "instababe" has no bearing on this subject at all. Leave it out of it.

BLUF: Automakers do not give out things for free. Either they plan to charge for future updates, or they will let the previous year wither on the vine and push the better goodies to next year's model to incentivize upgrading.

Although the extra capacity would be nice, we're still dealing with one of the big three. These are the companies that made "planned obsolescence" a thing. Unless they are planning to introduce a paid update service along side (or embed within) their existing subscription offerings, what incentive do they have to continue to update last year's model? With a yearly release schedule, they are hard at work planning the upgrades for the next sales year, not worrying as much (if at all) about the cars they have already sold short of warranty work. Sure it is good PR to promise OTA updates, but did they ever say how long those updates would be rolled out? The '19 Mustang Bullitt I owned was sold with the capability to do OTAs, but it never received any. Why not? Because there was no incentive to do so. Sure I'd like to see them commit to keep supporting the vehicles they've already sold and am hopeful they do, but I'm not holding my breath.

And now back to our regularly scheduled forum topic...

Agreed. But what about the improved charge curve? It may be a little off topic, but it is related.

Personally I would get a lot more value out of the 80-90% charge speed increase than the additional 3 kWh.

The reason for people being upset is because Ford has already stated they WILL provide the usable battery increase to 2021’s as well.

That is absolutely dismissive sexism.

As for the information, no it doesn't hold much weight at this point. Not because a woman said it, but because Ford doesn't seem to communicate internally any better than they do externally.

The improved charging curve update is already available via FDRS for Job 1 cars.

Maybe if they don’t increase my battery from 88 to 91 kwh (usable), then they’ll upgrade my F150 from 3.5L eco boost to 3.7L
Really. I bought 88 kwh. If they want to give me 3 more, cool. If not, oh well. I still have what I paid for. ?
