SSM 50415: Hands-Free Liftgate Deleted from 2022 Mach-E built on/after Jan 3

This is....bizarre? Also why was current online documentation not changed then? Manual has it, online specifications has it....weird?

I checked the Ford website and it does look like the hands-free lift gate has been changed to power lift gate (push the button) though unclear what it said when you might have configured and placed your order. Order guides deleted it also. Not sure if/when they may change the manuals (haven’t checked).

I use it all the time rarely the button. Glad I've got mine, I'd be very pi55ed if I thought I was getting it and didn't. Invaluable when you have your hands full.
Mine works every time as long as you have the key with you and do the straight kick in and out.

It’s probably something I wouldn’t use all the time. Though today I had an instance where it would be nice. It just sucks to lose a feature we thought we were getting, as the car is getting built. We are in fact getting less then what was sold to us, and likely with no compensation/adjustment.

Same thing is happening with very large features in other automakers like GM is taking out Supercruise due to chip shortage. I mean, if it meant another 6 months would you wait for the thing that makes it easier to open your trunk or would you want your car?

Elon would deem it a failure because you had to wave your foot and the car didn’t automatically know you wanted the trunk open lol.

If this is true, and pros and cons of the hands free lift gate aside, it seems pretty weak to be cutting this corner. Especially on all trims. And retroactively.

[edit: tbh, I’d much rather they cut BlueCruise. I’m far more likely to use a hands free lift gate.]

The feature was for the front row seats only. It was the glass for the door windows on the side of the driver and passenger.

Oh I thought it was the windshield too, it says SoundScreen on it.

I wonder if the 2021s that became 2022s will still have the features, and then the 2022s that were never 2021s won't. Guess we'll find out at delivery.

I wondered the same, but reading the SSM language it seems to me it is going to be directly tied to build date not timing of the order.

While I am annoyed with believing (maybe mistakenly if the change was prior to my order) that i am getting a feature then not finding I’m not getting it… I’d be way more upset if I had placed an order for a 2021 that definitely had the feature then lost it.

I wonder if that windshield is standard and this was just removing the side windows. I'm less concerned about that, honestly.

As far as kick-to-open for the liftgate... I had it on my Escape and it was 50/50 whether it would actually work. If my hands were full and I needed it, it wouldn't work. If I was walking by too close, it would open. So I'm not really disappointed about losing it.

Wow, that's really annoying. They should offer some credit or something.

I understand the supply shortages, but they should allow folks to add the chip back later, even if it takes a year+.

I don't know how much the acoustic glass benefits, maybe they can offer it as well for some $$, but discount some $$ now without it.

I don't think they should hold up cars, but it's still annoying. I planned to use the feet swipe feature for sure.

These customers are receiving a $750 private incentive, which more than makes up for the model year cost increases for some of them.

It would have been appropriate to disclose the feature differences at that time too, though. That this did not happen, other than paint color, is the problem here.

Was the acoustic laminate glass something that was always deleted from 22s, or is that a recent delete?

Acoustic glass was listed in the 9/29/21 order guide. It was removed from the 12/1/21 order guide. So if orders were converted in early October, vehicles made in January from that order should include acoustic glass. And by the way, this is the two front door windows, NOT the windshield.

“Should” is the operable word, certainly from what I think most people would consider fair and right. I wouldn’t count on that, however, and whether or not they actually do for sure may not be known until those cars start getting received. I’m in the “definitely not getting it“ group; hope for you Rick you get it though.

When I placed my order for a 2022 model back in October, it definitely had the acoustic glass. That was how I knew to order Premium vs CA Rt 1. When I changed it to a GPTE in Dec, ahead of the price increase, it may have been removed, but at no point did Ford or my dealer tell me about it. Much like how Ford hasn’t told me that I won’t be getting a hands free lift gate either.

Seriously, this downgrade may be a deal breaker for me. Especially because they’ve not bothered to let me know they aren’t delivering a car with the features I ordered. Not late, not with some features installed later: just not the car I ordered.

My order was converted before 12/1/21. Is there anything on the window sticker or modules or anywhere else to check for the acoustic glass?
